They cut it up because bulk making dough is efficient but pizzas tend to be best when fairly thin.
Focaccia thickness pizza dough has its place, but its very heavy. Most people'd rather cut that at least in half.

This is assuming it is a good slice of pizza. I had a slice yesterday for example, the crust was delicious but there was the thinnest smear of sauce on it I have had in a while. The saltiness of the cheese required some additional cut so I added some hot sauce to it and it turned a 6/10 slice to a high 8.

I think it is clear that bland strip mall pizza should be dipped. The pizza is so cheap and bad but I get it once in awhile. I think they must have all the same Sysco food supplier or something.

I usually only use ranch with certain pizza varieties, chicken bacon ranch (lol), hot wing, pepperoni etc.. Sometimes plain as well. I find a little sriracha is good on plain and pepperoni as well.
