>juice an orange
>its delicious

>buy orange made from concentrate
>aka they juiced the oranges and then dehydrated and rehydrated them
>no added ingredients
>tastes disgusting

genuinely what gets lost when you dehydrate that shit? something has to go, right?

its because the indelicate method for mass manufacturing orange juice is to
1. take the shittiest oranges you can buy
2. throw them peel, pith, and all into a machine
3. grind and strain
This is why the juice is opaque. If you peel an orange and juice it at home, it will be translucent. Its really nothing to do with the fact that it's concentrated. you can buy nicer orange juice for like $15 a gallon made from decent oranges that have, to some extent, had the peel and pith removed. It's a bit harder to find and might not be available at every grocery store.

i see, i didnt consider that

that aside, no, i juice oranges, theyre not really translucent?

>> No.18846195

All juice concentrates are pasteurized, because the concentration process involves warming it to a bacteria-friendly temperature under vacuum to evaporate water content. So it has effectively been cooked for a while, and I guess you don't like the way that alters the flavor. I don't mind it.

Well, also the low quality oranges and pasteurization. In my opinion, the pasteurization is the most minor negative factor.

Shitty oranges are literally sold as "juicer oranges". This includes oranges that have blemishes, but also dry-cell oranges and other serious quality deficiencies. FYI a dry-cell orange is basically like a mutant orange that has like 10000% as much pulp and 10% as much juice as it should. They are nearly inedible.

I know what you mean OP but I don't mind the stuff from concentrate, it's a completely different flavour. Fresh juice is certainly sweeter, it also has a subtle bitterness to it that gives it some depth, and has that zesty orange aroma. Juice from concentrate has more of that pure citrus tang. I'll usually go for fresh but it depends what mood I'm in.

I've had those drycell asshole oranges before. REALLY pisses me off when I have to play theblottery with my oranges. They are so unsatisfying compared to a proper l'orangez.
