I'm part of the SCA, you'll find a lot of ppl who use cooking methods / recipes from hundreds of years ago. All the while I get to drink and LARP.

I've boiled water a few times. That's about as old school as it gets IMO.

I made the hasty pudding he showed a while back since it was really basic and I'm lazy. With cinnamon and molasses it tasted OK, not much flavor but at least it wasn't gross either

Ever watch this guy? All food is made in a fire chimney with pots hanging over it, it's a trip literally how they did centuries ago, all the utensils and stuff

I remember in elementary school when 2 reenactors came to tell us about the civil war and we all got to try a piece of hard tack. I loved it.

I like to larp as an early stone age cave man when I go hunting in the woods. Stone age weapons only, atlatl and bow.
>try to kill squirrel
>miss completely and squirrel stares at me
>not like squirrel
>try again
>miss completely
>give up
>go fishing instead
>catch trout with rod
>cook trout on an open fire and burn the shit out of it because controlling heat is harder than it looks and I'm impatient
>eat it anyway because we don't waste food
It's a simple life, bros. It really hits the spot though and I encourage you to try it. There is something primal and satisfying about it.

When I was in fifth grade we had a whole little event day for the civil war.
Part of that was 'breakfast before battle,' where we all brought in eggs, bacon, coffee, and hard tack we'd made at home. We brought in our own pans and utensils.
Each 'battalion' aka group of 5 had to dig a hole and make their own little fire to cook their food. I was one of maybe three groups that managed to start a fire and actually have breakfast, and I was the only person that knew how to use a percolator.
Then each side had a 'war' in the trees next to the field with little sand and flower bags to bean each other with.
My school was pretty rad, looking back.

It's worth being part of SCA for the homebrewing alone. Depending on location, you could have a shit load of members near by. My house is in the Kingdom of An Tir, has close to 30 members. Majority of us home brew. Wines, meads, ciders, so many things to try.

I bought a bunch of whole nutmegs because of him then I forgot what recipes that actually need them and I don't want to watch his whole catalogue to find a recipe now
He doesn't seem to use it in the newer vids
