The wife bought me a hario technica 3 cup for christmas and I'm at a loss.
Why does this legit have to make the best tasting cup of coffee for me? Is it more forgiving then other methods? I'm not here shilling the hario, in fact if you decide you want a coffee siphon I would recommend probably getting a stovetop model. I would love to get a halogen heater for it, but I cannot find a source for a reasonably priced known name manufacture. Honestly, an open flame is stopping me from making this my primary method of brewing.
Anyone else have coffee siphon/ vacuum pot experience?

After I rinse it out and take it apart, I put the filter back together and run soapy water through it like you would froth milk. Then I take it apart again and rinse it back down. One a week I will put done espresso cleaner in it, among with all my other small coffee stuff like espresso basket and puck screen, and my cotton filters and let those all sit for a bit. Obv rinse it all again after.

When making an aeropress I lose like ~1/2 the volume of water. Am I making it wrong or something? My mug is 16 oz but I dont fill it all the way. Lets say I use 12oz of water, after brewing and pouring I end up with only like 8oz of coffee in the mug.

I understand its a smaller device but I still feel like Im losing a lot of liquid for almost no reason? Theres always a lot of water left in the kettle once I put the grounds and water into the press.

>> No.18773031

>>18773027
It's normal to lose some water since the grounds absorb it, but not that much. Are you pressing al the way to the end, to squeeze as much out of the grounds as you can?

>> No.18773045

>>18773031
Yeah. I pour my water into the mug, then the kettle, assemble the aero with the grounds, pour the hot water in and let it brew, then press it all the way to the end as well as pressing the air/grounds as much as possible. But the kettle always has a relatively large amount of water left in it in comparison to what I pour into the aero. I don't use a lot of grounds either.

Idk, maybe that's just how it is because the aeropress isn't that big, but it just seems off. Plus I prefer to have bigger cups of coffee in the morning (as its usually the only time I make it during the day) so when I make an aeropress and get a small amount of brew it doesn't satisfy me.

Shitty under-extracted coffee never tasted so good. I'll try again at 90 tomorrow. Now I just need to go find my blue loctite.
Ironically, I will soon run out of beans and have to go get more and dial those in. Hoping to get some better ones, this cafe has gone downhill the last year or so. Got some really shitty coffee last weekend, and I'm not sure if the baristas are just new or what.

Both. Give it a shot. I keep them in jar with one way valves, "burp" for the first week, then don't open them until I sample or feel like freezing. You wouldn't believe the gas that still comes off my pourovers after a month rest+a month frozen. Lighter roasts rest for way longer. Water boils at lower temperatures the lower the air pressure, with it boiling at something stupidly low, like 12° C in a total vacuum. That's also why baking and cooking instructions also had different temperatures for higher altitudes. With a consumer coffee siphon, the water will boil at something like 93° C or lower, resulting in a better cup of coffee because you don't extract the more bitter compounds in the grounds.

it has all the drawbacks of a moka pot + some unique to it.
like even with normal moka you can do a bit of temp control and whatnot but with this you cant.
onces its on the heat thats it.
so the only things you can actually control is beans, grind, water.
it makes good espresso but if you want to improve the taste there is a very limited amount of things you can do.

I went looking for an alternative to chinkshit coffee tubes and I've settled on swedeshit spice jars, aka IKEA ÖRTFYLLD
>decently thick glass
>wide enough mouth to fill without a funnel
>lid has a gasket seal (don't know how effective)
>flat bottom so it can stand without a meme wooden base
>large volume
The last point may be a con if you just want single-dose sized containers and don't like wasted jar space. I consider the extra space a nice buffer for any off-gassing from fresh beans and the thick glass doesn't hurt either.
In pic related, the left jar has about 36g of beans while the right jar has 22g which is my typical amount for a doubled-up Aeropress brew.
I have no doubt that if you have peaberry-sized beans, you could fit 45g+ in a single jar.

Anyone ever do an arduino mod for a Gaggia Classic? I'm budgeting out the parts and everything is about 90$ following this guide: https://gaggiuino.github.io/#/

I don't have a machine yet but I can get one for 250-350$ based on ebay results. Total project budget is <500$ for custom pressure profiling and PID all controlled through a touchscreen interface.

>While Fellow doesn't recommend the Ode for espresso — like, at all — the brand does claim that the Opus can grind fine enough for "true 9-bar espresso shot."
>The burrs are powered by a motor cranking out 6 n*m of torque at the burr, which Fellow claims combine to deliver excellent grind consistency and flavor profiles that are approved by certified Q-Graders — essentially sommeliers for coffee.
>That [Ode 2] anti-static tech has been brought over to the Opus, meaning users won't have to wait for the device's second generation for a clean grinding experience.
