Turkey on Thanksgiving. Ham on Christmas. Green bean casserole for both. This is the way.

Ham is massively overtated

I would choose ham over turkey any day, week, month of the year. It's tastier, easier to cook, is cheaper, and has more cooking methods. Turkey is a laborious pain in the ass for little ultimate reward.

I do this as well, but you forgot something

Actually: ham is usually a scam. Most of the cheap ones aren't actually smoked. They are just injected with chemical slop to make it taste like smoke (for those who can taste it). Usually loaded with water weight to cut corners.

The fancier ones also tend to skimp on the smoking part as well, I always have to "double-smoke" the hams to make them taste properly smoked. This applies to the big ones as well as most deli cuts.

But, when properly smoked, ham is fantastic. Tender, flavorful, good browning on the crust. Simply fantastic. But you have to re-smoke the shit they sell you to fix it.

Nah senpai, both are super easy if you smoke em. Actually turkey can be even easier. Ham you have to cut the skin off and trim excess fat to smoke (and spiral cut is a pain to smoke), the turkey can just get dropped in after removing the packets. Comes out with brown skin and perfectly juicy breasts with picture perfect legs.

I was more referring to it as a generally accepted thing.

I like ham but it's more of a hassle than turkey because of the different muscles, pieces of inedible fat and tendon/ligament connective tissue. Cold turkey is much easier to eat, you can just slice and eat every bit without a problem.
If you got a boneless ham you can just carve a circle then individually cut out the parts to avoid the shit you can't eat. It's good in an air fryer. 8 to 10 minutes at 200c and it's crispy without being burned, if it's thin enough that cooks it through

Ham is definitely easier to cook but I'd choose turkey and its gravy over ham. A good turkey is much better than ham to me and I love the gravy made from the turkey drippings so much.
