i've found that the food can be quite different when going to the same chain in different countries. subway kinda sucks here in the US, it's the cheapest; has the least staff and lowest quality ingredients. i'll still eat it in a pinch but jimmy johns or jersey mikes makes a better sandwich

Because you can get a better sandwich at pretty much every supermarket/corner store deli counter in America for the same price?

There was one downstairs from my office for 5 years so it became too convenient on days when walling to different place was a pain due to weather (big city downtown).

So I got really sick of it amd the smell of that bread...

But I'm now coming around and staring to really like it again.

My go-to Subway is a tiny place built from a former nail salon. The entire store is just 16x12 including the kitchen divided evenly by the counter. Customers have less than 4' of space to stand and place their order, and the counter is only 8' long as it has to accommodate the cash register and drink machine. A horrible, stuffy little room but conveniently placed within a train station so I've spent a lot of money there. Entire place reeks of weed because the "artist" spends most of his time in the adjacent closet taking edibles. Really quiet though, most of the customers don't even bother with food they just want the soda without waiting in line at the adjacent safeway or being heckled by the panhandlers at the adjacent CVS.

Quiznos died because they kept screwing over their franchisees, all the way into the ground. This was rather infamous and at least one franchisee killed himself over it. My local Quiznos were empty for the longest time because they were all in really shit locations without parking or only 2-3 spaces.

Because it's an overpriced sandwich. You can make a sandwich at home in the morning for a fraction of the price and take it with you for lunch. This was always the default. Subway used to be much less expensive, and had so many locations that it changed the equation for a while. It no longer makes sense.

They used to put a lot more on to start with and then any toppings you wanted they'd just pile on. Jalapenos? How about a fistful? Want more? Here's another fistful! These days they put literally SIX little jalapeno slices on an entire footlong sandwich, plus very little meat and cheese. It's ABYSMAL.

I tried it once in germany. the problem is always the same with all american franchise food. they always get the worst (cheapest) ingredients because the bosses are so fucking greedy so even if the employees knew what they were doing it would still taste like dogshit.

when you go to an italian restaurant the owners are still trying their best, their pride would not allow them to behave like a soulless american fastfood chain where the first priority is always maximum profit for the shareholders/bosses no matter the cost (quality of the food). this leads to recipe downgrades every year. american chains should honestly be banned from every civilized country
