There's something to be said for this. I wasn't allowed free reign through the already very minimal junk food my folks kept on hand. I'm sure being poor played some part in it, but we didn't have packages of cookies or potato chips very often, and when we did the kids had to ask for one and it wasn't a sure thing the answer would be yes.
To this day I almost never buy such things. I make as much of my own food from scratch as possible and practical so I know what's in it and don't have to worry about allergies.
I always encourage friends and family to forego processed and fast food as much as possible.
