18599111 No.18599111 [Reply] [Original]

1. "Seasoning" is just an applied coating, like teflon or paint. Moreover, it is a weak and unprotective coating, and has poor nonstick properties when compared to other applied coatings.
2. Cast iron really only has two valid purposes. One is for decently searing meat in a kitchen, and the other is cowboy LARPing over a campfire. Yes, LARPing as a cowboy over a campfire is valid. It's fun.
3. All modern cast iron is shit compared to an 80+ year old one you can get for $30 at a garage sale or antique store.
4. You only need two cast-iron things at a maximum- a 10" skillet and MAYBE a dutch oven. Any more than that and you are just a hipster faggot.
5. Lodge is mediocre, at best, but still approximately as good as any modern-make cast iron. No, a higher price doesn't get you more. It's fucking. cast. iron.
6. Beware of cast iron memes.

The key point is that the seasoning is non-toxic, unlike teflon or paint. Did you really just advocate for cooking on PAINT?

No, you imbecile. I called paint an applied coating, just like polymerized vegetable oil on cast iron is.
Do you know what kind of paint the Mona Lisa is? It's oil paint. Specifically, linseed oil. A vegetable oil. That polymerized (dried) and, exactly as the vegetable oil in your cast iron does when it is heated.
So, I'm not so much advocating for cooking on PAINT as I am explaining to your retarded as that you are ALREADY COOKING ON PAINT.
Also, the seasoning is literally a layer of carcinogenic acrylamides, so saying it's "non toxic" just shows everyone how ignorant you are. As if we needed more proof.
tl;dr - you will never be a woman

Did you know that linseed oil and flaxseed oil are the same oil from the same part of the same plant?

That's right! Linseed oil!

When you read, do you try to find meanings in strings of words, or take each individual word out of context and see what pops out?
When polymerized hydrocarbons break down into your food, they're carcinogenic - whether it's PTFE or lard you've carefully been trying to craft into a nonstick diamond. If you eat red meat in moderation, and treat either pan within the bounds of expectation (not scouring and burning off the Teflon; replacing when it's fucked / not scouring and acidulating your cast iron seasoning into shakshuka every morning; reseasoning when it's fucked), you're minimizing the risk, but it's never zero.
Time will not spare us. Memento mori.
