By consensus
The same way we as humans define all words
Dictionaries just try to keep up
Words mean what people intend them to mean
That's why Urban Dictionary is so useful

I always forget how good these are. I got food poisoning from an egg mcmuffin as a kid and it turned me of from them for awhile but they are great.
I made a breakfast sandwich today with thick cut bacon, fried egg, hp sauce, and some onion and chive cheddar. Was a really good breakfast sandwich.

In the UK muffins are traditionally a type of bread (a roll). A crumpet is more like a pancake/blini with a looser consistency that is held in place by pouring it into a chef ring (looks like a cookie cutter) on a flat pan on the stove. The crumpet has deep holes through which added butter melts into. You take a bite and get a mouthful of rich buttery deliciousness.

>Who Invented English Muffins? As you might expect, we have a British man to thank for the English muffin, though this tasty bakery treat was born here in the United States. In 1874, Samuel Bath Thomas emigrated from Plymouth, England, to New York and started making thinner, pre-cut crumpets while he worked in a bakery.

i dont know why the fuck they call it a crumpet at the end, crumpets are literally totally different things.

retard, muffins are made with a stiff dough and crumpets are made with batter. thats why a crumpet has holes in the surface. they're both english but otherwise they're completely different
