What are /ck/'s favorite recipes from Joy of Cooking?

>> No.18554228

>>18554225
i only use cooking books for reference not actual recipes
like all people should

Got this book for $1 at the library bookstore. Best dollar I've ever spent.

>> No.18554289

>>18554284
which version/edition was it?

>> No.18554291

Do people still use cook books?
I just type in what I want to make, look at 5-6 recipes, and then synthesize from what I like about them.

75th anniversary edition.

Nice, that one is supposed to be decent. Apparently the 1997 edition sucks (removed a bunch of good stuff) and the 1962 also sucks (was published without permission, and had updated versions released basically immediately after)

>I just type in what I want to make
Joy of Cooking has over 4,000 recipes. I'm sure some of them are things that you've never even thought of making before (but would still enjoy)

My dad and stepmom had a Joy of Sex book and I used to sneak into their room and look at it. One time when I opened the drawer it was in, I found topless picks of my stepmom.

The 2019 edition doesn't have that diagram :(
But it does have a few paragraphs on preparing squirrel. Just says to skin it like a rabbit though.

Yeah I heard the newer ones had it removed. What a bummer. Also if anyone wants a recipe I'll be happy to snap a picture and share

How many bear recipes are there in that one? 2019 just has a single "braised bear" recipe

What about the current edition, is that compromised? Which one's best?

>> No.18554584

>>18554473
I've never seen any complaints about the current (2019) edition, aside from people wanting e.g. diagrams on preparing a squirrel like >>18554321

The 2019 edition DOES have a "game and exotic meats" chapter, including:
Small game (squirrel, opossums, raccoons, muskrat, woodchuck, beaver). No actual recipes here, just tips on dressing/preparing
Rabbit/hare (5 or 6 recipes)
Venison (like 4 recipes)
Wild sheep and goats (just says to prepare these like domestic lamb and goat)
Wild boar (basically just says to cook it like normal pork, while being sure to cook it to the correct temperature due to the increased chance of wild boar having trichinosis)
Bear (recipe for braised bear like I mentioned above)
Bison, yak, and alpaca

To be clear, this is one of the shortest chapters in the book, at 8 pages.

Using cookbook
>open index
>open recepie

using written interweb recepie
>type in food
>pick the one or two non american retard written version that doesn't have fucking cream, emulsifying chemical and/or gelatin gum in it cause they can't emulsify in any other way
>scroll through 5 pages of text that talks about the writers earliest memory of pasta or some shit to get more ad revenue
>get to ingredients and cooking after having to replace your scroll wheel
>have to click expand to see the recepie

or using youtube interweb recepie
>find video
>wait for ads to end
>click through paid sponsor segment
>click through video to find all the ingredients that you have to type out to convert to non retard, non stone age units so you can have an idea of the ratios
>finally have recepie

The convenience of the internet was ruined by internet. Books are now kings again.
