What he means is, if you go to a regular pizzeria in NY, not a fancy sit down restaurant that has pizza on the menu, the style here is the best. Every region has their own, NY's is non-rigid thin crust, other parts of the country will prefer it at various other thicknesses and crispiness or doughyness. The good thing about NY is you can go into basically any pizza place and it'll be minimum 6/10, but this is also a function of being the most competitive restaurant market in the world. Even a random street cart in NY will have pretty good food.

Yeah, of course you still need the regular toppings, I just mean that for my taste most pizzas could use like 2-3x the dough thickness. New York - the classic standby, thin but soft, can’t really go wrong, stick to cheese or sausage only
Detroit - thick, doughy, burnt on cheesy crust, definitely worth a try
Chicago deep-dish- basically its just lasagna in a pie crust. its good but extremely filling, not for everyone
Chicago thin-crust - paper thin crispy crust, can be done right but usually only optimal for parties

Everything else is a meme, do not pay attention to retards spouting off about St. Louis style or Altoona style or anything outside the basic 4 I listed. None of them were around before 2000 they’re just inventions of bored idiots looking to attach their nowhere town’s name to something

The endless seething ITT is proof that NYC pizza is the best on Earth.

Here's the facts
>NYC pizza is renowned by the majority of credible culinary publications as the best in the world.
>NYC pizza's superiority is established scientifically, in part being owed to the superior properties of NYC water used during dough preparation.
>NYC pizza is renowned in popular culture in general. Pizza is synonymous with NYC and no other place on earth.
>Anybody who's anybody has been to NYC and sampled the well-known joints and reported the superiority of NYC pizza.

That's all there is to it. I'm sure other regions in the US have food that they do better than everyone else. You could just celebrate that, but no. For some reason, non-Yorkers covet the pizza title, which will never, ever be wrested from the Big Apple. You people even import our tap water to make pizza (and bagels).

NYC style pie is probably the most ubiquitous and easy to find quality thereof.

There's more to New York Pizza than NYC pizza though.
>Sicilian
descended from the Sfinciuni, a type of pie sold in the bakeries of Sicily. Pan-Baked, rectangular, ~1inch crust. May also be called DETROIT STYLE in some places due to it's popularity and fame in the motor city, but there's plenty of it in New York
>Bar Pizza
Not very common in New York but can still be found, thin cracker like crust cooked in a gas oven
>Neapolitan
Your modern 'Hipster' New York City pizza, it's authentic in as far as there is an actual vetting process for making it. The Verace Pizza Napoletana Association (VPN) is an Italian organization that certifies restaurants based on the employment of wood fired ovens and the use of a list of standardized ingredients of Neapolitan origin, such as 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella.
>Midwestern Pizza
>New Haven
There's more.

NYC is basically the place where Pizza was popularized and standardized in the united states. you can find most kinds there, and generally of decent quality. Specific regional varieties may not be present (fun fact, 'cajun pizza' was actually invented in new york) and you can certainly find good if not better pizza joints outside of NYC, but for action per square foot NYC is basically the center of the US pizza scene. It's kind of like Beef BBQ and Texas.

It's worth trying because it's iconic but anyone saying it's better than a nice Imo's pie from St Louis (pic related) is just coping. Like, you know when you're driving through bumfuck-nowhere and see a sign advertising a roadside tourist trap for the World's Largest Parsnip or some other bulllshit, and everyone stops and gawks and gets a photo and a $25 t-shirt, but as you pull away you realize that you just spent $500 on nothing? Yeah, that's pretty much what every NYC transplant from the midwest says as they desperately try to seem more cultured than their honest, corn-fed forebears--substituting an adopted zip code for a personality. No offense, it's a common phenomenon, forgivable but it'll seem pretty cringe with a few more years' maturity and perspective. Native New Yorkers are comparatively chill in my experience, and happily welcome tourists since so much of the city is basically a theme park, where would we be without tourism.

Enjoy the City and whatever pizza, overpriced giant deli sandwiches, and chinese food you may find. If you meet a rude "local" or a homeless man pees on you, savor the experience as a great story for the folks back home. By all means travel into Connecticut for their pizza or a lobster roll, or into New Jersey for a pork-roll egg & cheese on a kaiser bun, or even dip down into Philly for a meme steak sandwich from Phil's or Geno's. New York has been a shitshow, yet also the gateway for so many of our immigrant ancestors. Understand why they came, and understand why most GTFO.

It's still cheaper (and probably more entertaining) than Disney World.

nope, this is a meme or a really, really bad opinion. the best pizza is little caesar's and domino's. speaking of, i believe they have domino's in japan, don't they?

yes, the guy who suddenly sprung up awake in a car we were smoking a cigarette next to who smashed into the bartender's car three times, so I called the police and gave them the plate numbers as he drove off and the bartender had us do top shelf shots with him as thanks. a super degenerate, not at all classic American moment between American bros enjoying their lives in America because chudboy rages whenever adults do adult things. Go clutch your pearls somewhere else, you flyover bitch.

sounds like you don't get out much but just fyi: seattle has one of the worst fucking homeless pops around and they're all on inhalants. it's a shithole, like a ton of "cities" in the US, and the fucking weirdo suddenly popping up awake next to us in a car and buttfucking the bartenders car three times wasn't even the craziest shit homeless got up to around me while i was there, but like i said, sounds like you don't get out much flyover. on that note, you fucking whiny baby, you, it turns out the majority of bars are not the buffalo city wings or applebees you tepidly visit, on occasion, but rather the fucking guys behind the counter owns the concept, as crazy of an idea as that is, but then again i forget how fucking dumb the average hayseed is.

Non-meme answer is that you need specific restaurant recommendations. (The most memorable pizza I had was 250mi outside of NYC.) Otherwise, just ask your host family to buy pic related from Walmart and you'll be within the top 10% of American pizza technology.

>so much of the city is basically a theme park, where would we be without tourism.
I strongly object. Restaurants, stores, and rooftop bars do not constitute a "theme park" by any definition. People visit New York to experience a taste of the "hustle and bustle" hyper-reality they've been exposed to in media, that's all.

many foods in which cities became known for were a rssult of what all the blue collar workers and low level white collar people were eating.

new york citizens would often grab a slice or a hot dog from a cart on their lunch breaks. its not going to blow your mind.
its something you grab walking around town. dont think too hard about it.

Everyone that hates on NYC does so with good reason; they don't live here and are jealous. It's nicknamed The Capital of the World for a reason, and not everyone can fit, so yeah probably just stay in your gay, inbred dairy farm or your le safe space suburbs and seethe that your entire existence could be summarized in one block here.
