When I was 18 I got my first place, and went grocery shopping at a Save A Lot type place and got "steaks" to cook for me and my girlfriend. They were not as bad as those dollar store steaks, but they were pretty shitty quality. Then I proceeded to over cook them to hell and back. She was not impressed. She broke up with me a while later. The modern woman cannot cook for shit, but I truly believe that anyone can be taught. I learned some of the basics of cooking when I was 15. Like chopping onions, crushing garlic with a knife and sauteing. I've learned incorrect techniques but corrected them as I've come along.
But do you people think that people can be taught to cook past the age of 22?
I'll be honest, 22 is the age I actually had the courage to do steaks on a pan. Before that it was all pasta dishes and chilli con carne and even at 22, I was cooking steaks blue.

remove rind and chop 100g guanciale/pancetta
protip: if you can't find either, use polish smoked pork belly called boczek or russian salo
grate 50g parmigiano and 50g pecorino romano, mix
in a bowl beat 2 eggs and one egg yolk, add freshly grated black pepper and a little salt
add salt to water and boil for spaghetti (you can use other pasta, this makes for variety so just use whatever you have but please dont buy cheapo pasta)
you know how to cook pasta, you're not retarded
2 nicely sized garlic cloved smashed and chopped with a broad knife
fry the smoked meat IN BUTTER, plenty of it, over low heat and let it's own fat render and crisp it up
towards the end of the cooking time add the garlic, mix well, let the emulsion begin
if you didnt chop the garlic finely, you can remove it after a short while

STEP 2 MOTHERFUCKER
when the pasta is cooked add it into the pan with the guanciale, dont care about some of the water being transferred, emulsion baby
mix the cheese with the eggs
remove from the heat, pour in the eggs and cheese and mix hard as fuck to help T H E E M U L S I O N
dont do it over any heat, make sure you removed the pan from any source of heat
if you want more sauce, add some of the pasta water

I cook for my wife and family as often as I can. Once a week, my wife picks a very fancy dish from an expensive restaurant, and I'll imitate it. Tomorrow is a duck confit with paradelle, smoke mozzarella, wild mushrooms, and some kind of sauce. I'm making my own pasta and my own mozerella (that's for the first time).
