Which is a shitshow, we do have some great beers but a lot of crap too, and the "craft industry" is a slave to memes, whether it's hazy IPAs, or half-assed sours, or hard seltzers, or milkshake stouts. In the Northeast we have new SKUs appearing every week and nobody knows what's what.

Japan's export beers are comparatively "boring" but classic and reliable. The problem is their overpriced for what they are, in USA at least. We'd buy a lot more Asahi if it were priced like Stella Artois or Heineken.

Define "quality". I personally find german beers bland and see them as the 'basic bitch' type of brews.

Then again, I'm pretty sure the imported beers here in America are as shit as the crap we send to other countries.

Hey Finbro, you might be amused by how canned lonkero has become semi-trendy in USA (partly related to the trend of "hard seltzers"). At our local stores we have three brands:

>"The Finnish Long Drink"
Pic related, USA made, it seems they did the bulk of the marketing work to popularize it here in recent years, available in a few varieties (original, strong, berry)

>Hartwall Original
Finnish (as you know), imported I think (as opposed to "made on license" here)

>Bevy Long Drink
This one contains no actual gin, which puts it in a different legal/tax class in some USA jurisdictions; it's fermented with flavorings to mimic the original

(Of course you could also try making your own, mixing gin with grapefruit juice and carbonated water.)

Cooking by the book. Muh science.

>I personally find german beers bland and see them as the 'basic bitch' type of brews.
That's probably because (1) German-style lager has long been a "default" style of beer in most of the world (though it's not always well done), and (2) the American "craft" scene tends to ruin appreciation of subtlety and nuance.

>"Dude, what if we made like, an IPA, but instead of 5% abv, we made it 10% abv, and like, instead of hopping it traditionally, we added ALL THE HOPS, but don't forget the most important thing, before we start brewing we need a funny name and a goofy label and we need to book a band for the launch party, start tweeting about it now dawg, oh wait I almost forgot, the subreddit is talking all about HAZY, make it HAZY bro, oh and put a Ukranian flag on the label too!" (soyface)
That's American craft.

I still don't understand. Is it just consistency from one batch to another? I'm not sure what the "Muh science" thing means (note: I am not a huge beer person)

As for the rest of your post, I half agree and half disagree. I think the craft beer scene has ruined any sort of IPA or sour for the rest of my life. I'm drinking beer damnit, not some vinaigrette that tastes like it was sprayed with soap.

However, when I pick up a porter, stout, or lager from the craft brewing aisle, 9/10 times it will be *excellent*, even if they lack the subtlety that the blander German beers have.

To this day, the best beer I had was an imperial stout that was "Mexican Chocolate" flavored. It tasted like a slightly sweeter Guinness, but the moment it hit the back of your throat it got *spicy*. I would take that over the subtlety anyday. I wish I remembered what it was called.

Truth bomb:
THERE IS LITERALLY NO JAPANESE BEER IN NORTH AMERICA
Exceptions: Orion (it’s all brewed in Okinawa) and Japanese “microbrews” such as Hitachino

Sapporo and Kirin are brewed in North America under license.
Asahi sold in NA was brewed in Canada until recently, and is now brewed in Italy. The tall cans of asahi are brewed in Vietnam.

If you are in NA and want to drink a Japanese lager actually from Japan, you can buy Orion (expensive as fuck outside Japan, and that’s IF you can find it), or go somewhere that has Sapporo on tap, as it’s my understanding that Sapporo kegs do come from Japan (though I’m not 100% certain)

Imagine thinking your country is important enough for our good craft brews.

The best craft breweries here in the US can barely keep up with domestic demand. Do you honestly think that they're going to ship to 3rd world countries that can only afford 1/4th the price? No, the only American beers you guys get to have are the shit that doesn't sell well here. You can deal with our leftovers.

Same reason why eurofags believe Americans actually enjoy Budweiser. We don't, but it's cheap enough for you guys to give us some ruples.
