What's the key to making the perfect sloppa joe on a bun?

>> No.18399396

I'm thinking of making the sloppy joe dip from Food Wishes. Anyone have experience with that recipe or with any of his recipes?

Sloppy Joes at the grocery store make me mad.
I still haven't gotten over that time I bought a can only to discover the meat wasn't included in it.

>Hey retard, the can said it didn't have meat!
Yeah, I fucking know. But it was also sitting in the "canned meat" section right between the Spam and Chef Boyardee ravioli.
It doesn't belong there, fucking put it into the BBQ/condiments section, goddammit. I wasn't in the easy dinner section just so I could buy a can of sauce.

I'll freely admit that I'm dumb, but organize your shit better.

i mix a can of tomato sauce with one pound of ground beef, then turn on the heat and add brown sugar, some ketchup, and salt, pepper, garlic powder. in another pan i cook down finely diced onions and finely diced bell pepper, then add that to the meat, then add like half a cup of whatever stock i have, cover and simmer on low for like an hour.

I haven't tried this with a sloppy joe but I'm thinking masa harina in a slurry to thicken it up, then pour it on the bun. It seems to work with chili.

Just make sure you let it thicken up properly. Nothing worse that a runny Sloppy Joe.

Chef John's recipes are easily the best on the internet. No gimmicks, you should usually have most of the ingredients on hand too.
