Is there a reason beef including ground beef and steaks are getting incredibly cheap?

drought in texas has driven up the price of hay
ranchers cant afford to keep their cows over winter and are dumping them on the market and have been for months

If not for tyson and cargil fucking the customers and the ranchers at the same time, beef would be much cheaper

cows and pigs are slaughtered in the fall. Therefore more meat is available and at cheaper prices. Its like how watermelons are cheaper in the summer.

$1.99/lb for 5lbs of 73% lean beef is not a deal. If buying the same fattiness in such a large quantity, the price would have been around $1.50/lb in the beforetimes. $1.99/lb was the price for 80% lean.

The world economy is significantly more globalized than it was in the 80s. Sure we're probably heading for a recession, and are arguably already in one.

However, the rest of the world is doing just as poorly, in fact more so. So as long as our inflation and economic issues don't catch up or outpace the rest of the world, we'll be fine. All we need to do is stay ahead of the curve, and I think we will by a landslide considering all the destabilizing events in Europe and Asia.

I was just in europe for work and a lot of things were dirt cheap because of the exchange rate and their economy suffering and this is only going to get worse. America is an importer economy, and now all of our inputs are getting significantly cheaper. That means higher profits for US businesses and better negotiating leverage. The US dollar has strengthened it's position in the world despite the Fed printing more money in the last two years than they did in the previous 40. Only 10% of our GDP is from foreign sources, and 70% is from domestic consumer spending.

Yeah, it's good stuff. I don't get why people are willing to pay double for the lean mince. You can make the fatty one go along way.
Also in Morrisons at the moment they're doing 750g of mixed pork and beef mince for £2.85.
