Who ever said they were. Crinkle cut are far superior to any other fry. Classic, curly, waffle, shoestring. All of them in comparison to crinkle and it's superior dipping shape(pulls up more sauce) are lesser.

They are barely better than a basic fry, I would take them over mcdonalds fries but that's about it.
Problem with fries is there is such a huge powergap. Curly fries basically blow everything else away so badly the rest aren't even worth considering after you have tried them.

Whether frozen, ordered at a restaurant, etc. crinkle cut fries have always been the BLANDEST form of fried potato I've ever had. And no amount of spice/salting at the table seems to stick to them so I always end up drowning them in ketchup to make them palatable (and even then the inside tastse of nothing). Is there an over-arching reason for this? Is the kind of potato typically used different or something about their geometry that inhibits them from having flavor?
