I don't mean to put down, but c'mon, bruh.

Anyway, while you may've wasted some food if you choose not to eat it, you've at the very least learned something so you're one step closer to being a better cook. Cheer up and try something a bit less ambitious next time, like a simple vegetable bisque or just a pan-cooked steak with a baked potato and some spinach on the side.

As for my cooking failure, I mentioned this before, but once, after spending countless hours boiling pork bones for white stock, I poured it through the colander to strain our the bones and fat and it went straight down the drain. Dumb fuck me forgot to put a pot under the colander to catch it.
So there you are. We're both 'tards.

Next time that happens toss some potato chunks into it, they will help absorb things like that pretty readily.
Everyone makes mistakes but not giving up is key

>Dog sitting at in-laws' house while they're on vacation
>Make bolognese for us and brother in law
>Sauce is simmering for hours
>Taste for seasoning
>Needs more garlic
>Add a heap of garlic powder
>Stir
>Taste
>Weirdly acidic and mustardy
>It was actually mustard powder
>Try to fix by adding a bunch more normal seasonings
>Still tastes awful
Always read the labels of spices when cooking in someone else's kitchen. Their mustard powder was the same brand as the garlic powder I buy, so I just grabbed it without thinking. I'm used to mustard powder being in a bright yellow Coleman's container, not a regular glass spice jar. This was like 3 years ago and I'm still annoyed by it. Every time I make bolognese my wife cracks some joke about "no mustard in mine please" and I just want to dump the whole pan down the sink.

I would have made a batch of rice, adding NO salt, and use it to bulk the meal while diluting the salt. It would be extra rice-y, but edible. Did you use some premade spice mix or something? The cheap ones will oversalt their mix. It would be a good idea to sample your food throughout the cooking process to ensure that everything is to your liking, or wait until the end to salt your meals (unless the process absolutely requires otherwise).
