Starting up a lil bizznez. How much can I charge for this and still make a marginal profit?

Again, an empty question. Are you at a premium location with a captive audience (think popular amusement park) or a run down trailer hidden away in some alley? Are they any good? Do you market your food correctly? What are the prices at similar establishments in your vicinity? etc etc. If you can ask these questions without irony you cannot run a business.

find out what the prices for something similar is in your town or at least somewhere similar within 1 hour distance and price it just below their prices. the quality has to be top tier to justify it, though.

Basically you cannot expect an answer containing a number if you don't provide any numbers yourself. Sure I could say 'about three fiddy' but that answer would be even less useful than my previous ones. Starting an even moderately successful business from scratch requires a lot of research and work. Sure there are cases of wonderful cooks who wing it and luck out and hit gold because of some great review or whatever but those are very rare exceptions. Many starting businesses just crash and burn and become a money pit so deep you wouldn't believe, trust me, I've seen it happen with my aunt and uncle and they built a great bar etc but people just wouldn't come, most probably because they opened a live music blues bar in an area where young people just come to get hammered. Same thing a block next to them, was a golf buddy of my father's, dude was literally at or about a millionaire but he decided to open a golf theme bar in a very expensive premium location. Long story short, golf is way less popular than he thought it was and he is no longer a millionaire.

Just a small selection of anecdotal evidence but mind you, these people actually had capital and a business plan (albeit a flawed one). You seem to have neither.

There was a hipster hotdog place that opened in philly in 2012. They were decent, but they only lasted four years. I don't know how you can make a living selling hotdogs.

You gotta have a gimmick honestly, Gimmicks are what sells. SURE you can be just "The Chicken Shack" and sell fried chicken out of a gas station. But the guy across the street with "Chicken Circus" where he does the same thing except the theme is clowns and elephants and circus music and shit is going to always be more popular.

Take the price it costs to make and double it. A hot dog with the dressings costs about $3 in supplies to make, so charge a rounded $5 for it. The convenience of needing only a single bill is a marketing angle far too few businesses take advantage of.

You're the fucking business owner in this scenario, you retard. Everything you do is to make the business successful, and when the business is successful you make more money. The time you put in doesn't get figured into the business costs. They are the profits. If you aren't making enough money at the end of the day to justify the amount of time you put in then you can decide whether or not you want to continue the business. You can't just ask your boss for a raise. God you're stupid.

Most restaurants don't turn a profit for the first year or two, so yeah, you do essentially "work for free", or take so little that you're basically working for less than minimum wage. Once again you've demonstrated how little you know about the restaurant industry. I'd have thought this would basically be common knowledge here.

That doesn't even have anything to do with knowing how to run a business. Those are literally how the terms are defined. Just because the owner works doesn't mean that the profits he makes and the checks he writes himself get factored into the labor costs. Holy shit you're stupid.
