This looks gross at first but based on the ingredients and description it would probably be a tasty, cheap dessert.

The beige part is a lightly-sweet, firm pudding (flavored with just fruit cocktail juice, lemon juice, almond extract) made in the shape of a big donut, with chocolate-cupcake-cups sitting in/along the top of the ring, fruit cocktail filling the cupcake-cups as well as the middle of the pudding-ring, and some meringue around the outside.

To anyone who has ever struggled to make liquid cheese sauce out of real, solid cheese (not velveeta or cheez wiz) - EVAPORATED MILK IS THE FUCKING SECRET AND ITS SO FUCKING EASY.

Seriously, that old recipe pic almost gets it right (except for the processed cheese). Just do this:
>1 small can of evaporated milk
>~200g (8oz) of your favorite solid cheese (barring weird shit like mega-hard parmigiano or ultra-mild queso fresco), shredded
>~1 tbsp corn starch (unless using pre-shredded cheese from a bag)
>Herbs/spices of your choice to taste, or just a big pinch of ground black pepper if you really don't know wtf you're doing with spices
- Toss the shredded cheese with the corn starch, or, if you're using a bag of pre-shredded cheese from the store, skip the corn starch - it will already contain enough corn starch as it is.
- Put the cheese in a small saucepan, heat on low until cheese just begins to soften a bit.
- Add only HALF the can of evaporated milk for now.
- Whisk (you'll really want a whisk, beaterr, or electric hand-mixer for this) the FUCKING SHIT out of it as it heats up - not super fast/aggressively, but CONSTANTLY. Don't let up. This is important. You need to keep everything moving around as it starts to melt together. If you did it right, you'll slowly start to see the grainy cheese mixture become smoother and smoother as you stir.
- At this point it's basically "done", but if it's still too thick/grainy, stir in more of the evaporated milk to thin/smooth it out
- Add whatever seasonings you want. If you want to make a queso for nachos, add jalapenos and/or a pinch of cayenne, if you want to experiment with other kinds of things, I highly recommend a little touch of cumin and some parsley.
- Stir the seasonings in for a little bit to get their flavors absorbed into the sauce.

Keeps for a couple hours at room temperature, but you can fridge it for later - just put it in the microwave with a few drops of evaporated milk to reconstitute it.

Gelatin doesn't have much flavor at all. It's pretty neutral. Fruit jello is flavored. The aspic dishes use unflavored gelatin.

Though, the aspic stuff exists less to eat and more as a weird centerpiece thing. It has existed in a few cultures over time and pops up now and again.
