Is the full English breakfast a meme or do brits actually eat 3000 calories for breakfast?

>> No.18248232

I always figured it's sort of a relic from an age where the Industrial Revolution was in full swing and men were worked to the bone in factories and mines, and thus could actually need such a hearty breakfast. That said I don't know and I'm not a bong.

Nope.

That's a fairly small amount of Full English for an average-sized person, I'd say? The main reason Full Engish cooks so fast and "lasts" so short is that there isn't much density to it. I wouldn't WANT to eat a double helping of kippers in that timeframe, but I could easily.

I imagine it would've been more of a meal that the landed gentry and above could have regularly, not only due to the actual value of all the meal but also the time and resources required to put it together daily, something a dedicated housecook or maid would be responsible for. I also suspect it would have more greens and exotic items depending on the area and the imports available at the time.

Then over time people in middle and lower classes probably started making it during days off or special events as a show of class, and what ingredients they tended to use ended up defining the breakfast as we know it today. One thing I see is that most of those ingredients would have been available year-round after the start of the industrial revolution, though I assume the tomatoes and mushrooms would likely be available as dried/canned in the winter.

sausages, bacon and black pudding have never been particularly expensive, nothing on a full english is luxurious. sausages are cheap. bacon is cheap. black pudding is literally just blood, oats and offal.
and the whole thing doesn't take very long to cook or any preparation besides chopping some mushrooms or tomatoes if you have them
traditionally its served when you have guests, as a show of good hospitality, in homes of all stations

I've only ever cooked a full breakfast for myself alone when I know I won't have lunch and even then im skipping on the bacon and tomatoes. If you have less money or less appetite you just leave shit out.

My uncle, 65, has the same, without jam.
A full English is a nice treat occasionally and it's rarely that large
The most popular one in England is the Wetherspoons large breakfast. Smaller but still quite a lot of food.

That's exactly what it was, but it wasn't as extreme as what's presented today. It was a super calorific way to start a day of hard work, and was only for the working man of the house.

All these fags thinking working people couldn't afford sausage and bacon and an egg in industrialized britain are city-dwelling 15yr olds obsessed with status. It was affordable but likely poor quality. Meanwhile miners in more rural areas were surrounded by farms.

Rich folk in industrial age britain were far more interested in eating exotic imports and spices as symbols of wealth and status. Kedgeree, soft fruits, sugar and spice etc.

it's not only a meme, it exists and it's dogshit.
In hotels, restaurants and pubs it is the worst cooking i've ever had the misfortune to taste, i mean even worse than modern french cooking.

Toast: the one one this pic looks acceptable but irl they use garbage toast bread from kike stores and that's barely digestable.
Eggs: the one on the image is clearly fake, they serve shitty eggs with almost completely white yolk, the real disgusting shit is when they make scrambled eggs from it and the whole shit looks sickly pale instead of nice healthy yellow that decent people know and love.
Black pudding: now this can taste good sometimes but usually lacks spices and flavour, a common theme in britbong cooking.
Bacon: can't go wrong with that when it's properly fried and not just half-cooked because the pakistani muslim intern in the kitchen can fuck up even this.
Fried, warm tomatoes: unsalted, tasteless, with the texture of warm snot. Absolutely disgusting, a crime against mankind and places with this shit should get EXTERMINATUS
Mushroom: acceptable. Again, mostly lacking flavours but at least not worse than that.
Sausage: garbage. 0 spices 0 flavour even the texture is bad, sometimes contains flour or soy which make it even worse.
Beans: the cheapest shit they can get out from a can, again barely tastes like anything.
That potato shtiin the middle: edible but don't expect any flavours.
Ham: see the bacon part.

What's not on the pic:
Grapefruit juice and coffee combination: repulsive.
Jams: ALL briish jams are fucking bitter.
Tea: usually cheap, commerse shit everywhere so tea enthusiasts will be repulsed.

Still that isn’t grey slop like morons believe. I think people read Oliver Twist and thought a cheap orphanage trying to penny pinch by serving gruel was how everyone ate.

you said they
>just had less variety
>but they still had regular access to bacon, eggs, milk, venison, etc
I was clarifying that they did, but not in the amounts we regular enjoy today

also I would have mentioned fish; fish makes up a HUGE part of poorfags' food to this day, as much as 50% average of protein consumption

>do brits actually eat 3000 calories for breakfast?
The pic shows a very big breakfast, a good sized breakfast would be 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 egg, 2 toast, 2hash browns, beans or tinned toms, black pudding (if you're lucky).
I'd eat that maybe 2/3 times a year at home, then gave a lie down.
Pic related is more the kind of thing you get out at a traditional greasy spoon, it's more something you'd have on a Saturday (before football at the pub), or a weekday lunch if you do a job that fits that lifestyle.
Builders, labourers etc will often start very early, have a fat fry up around 12, then work the afternoon semi-comatose.

best thing for marmalade is to lightly use a potato peeler to get just the outside zest with very little pith and then chop it in small pieces. You get the zesty flavor and more substantial consistency and avoid the bitter pith. Also, I always add cinnamon.
