I won't lie, I own one dedicated to gyokuro, but I've used it a total of once. It's mostly that drinking highly concentrated gyokuro is not a way I enjoy drinking tea, you get so little for such a high cost. Sure it tastes great but it's kinda not something I even want to do more than like on Easter and Christmas to celebrate the major holidays.
Unglazed Tokoname Kyusu is decently versatile between sencha and gyokuro, its not going to get ruined as easily as a zhuni clay pot. It's not very porous, it will take flavor but it's not drastic enough that occasional gyokuro will ruin one. Shiboridashi is kind of a waste of money if you don't buy a lot of gyokuro and do tasting sessions with the high concentration brewing.

Are you mostly into fukamushi or what? As a mostly asamushi/gyokuro drinker I use my shibo regularly while my kyusu collects dust. Kyusu makes more green tea than I want in a given cup (wouldn't be a problem if my bf wanted it as well but green is the only kind of tea he unilaterally hates), and is harder to clean. I also just don't enjoy the aesthetic or pour as much.

>>18256611
I've barely been able to go a day without it ever since finally buying some and getting a whisk. It's wild, caffeine does almost nothing to me- I can knock back a double espresso, energy drink or yerba mate and not feel a thing- but one sip of matcha and it's like I just hit a cigarette. It's the only non-alcoholic drink that noticeably and immediately affects how I feel. Doubt it's just the theanine, a full gyokuro session doesn't have that effect.

>>18256658
I also drink mate daily. Again it's not psychoactive for me but it tastes good, is cheap and is supposedly great for you. Gotta drink something, might as well make it good.

I can't decide what teaware to get.
I mostly drink Chinese tea and currently have Chinese tepots and gaiwans. I wanted initially to get some cheapish vintage chinese cups, teabowls etc.
But im wondering if i should worry about keeping things consistent or if i can just get random Japanese cups to go with my Chinese teapots.
Or if i should just buy some cups plates etc from western ceramic artists.
It's not that hard to find Chinese stuff but certian pieces like a bowl to put my teapot in are going to be a hassle to track down and it would be easy enough to get a stonefired pices from a westwrn potter, but it will be very obvious that its not Chinese and i think that will bother me.

Buy what pleases your eyes. Buying based on prestige/rarity does not guarantee it will be to your liking. There are plenty of excellent, yet underrepresented artisans and collectives that will offer you unique teaware that you may very well enjoy equally, if not more. Some use similar or otherwise inspired techniques as well. You can even color match from different makers if you have a keen eye. >Any recommendations for aged sheng and heicha on king tea mall?
His heivha selection is a little weird.
Aged sheng, right now the best thing to do is go through his recent listings, find the semi aged cakes that are $60 or less and pick ones that sound good based on his descriptions. That's where the value is on KTM right now since older listings have crept up in price over the years.
This is pretty good from a tea per $ metric but its a big commitment

For fu cha, i haven't tried this brand but maybe one of these
https://kingteamall.com/collections/dark-tea/products/2014-xiangyi-fucha-yi-pin-1st-grade-brick-400g-dark-tea-hunan
For the prices i would rather get some of the more recent fu productions that yunnan sourcing has. Those more modern fu chas will be much cleaner and have much better leaf/processing quality.
Those older paper wrapped fu bricks are going to look horrific, stay away unless you are very brave.

Going to waste all your money on building boxes to age expensive bricks in different conditions and send your teapots to laps to be laser analyzed, buy special water with exact mineral levels, and basically waste your life on being as autistic as possible about a type of tea.

If it tastes off thow a teabag in a mug and fill 1/4 way with boiling water, wait 10-20 seconds, dump the water out and refill to the top with more boiling water, that's usually enough to get most of the fermentation funk off
Based on a quick search it actually looks like it might be raw puer, im interested to see what you think of it.

I've had ABC pu'er, both their shou and alleged tieguanyin. In my experience, the shou is a little bland or simple otherwise depending on storage, but inoffensive. >> No.18264253

I believe in the last thread, an anon mentioned hobak-cha, or Korean pumpkin tea. I've looked up some and also saw varieties with sweet potato in them. It sounds absolutely delicious. However, as an EUfag, €17 worth of shipping from US isn't worth it for me. I've been looking for a while for alternative vendors for this type of tisane, but no luck so far, and I'd really love to try it. Does anyone have any links that are slightly more EU-ship-friendly?

(Bulk) dong ding oolong. I make coldbrew with some cheap bulk market dong ding occasionally, and it goes well with milk each time I've tried it. Otherwise, maybe a cheap roasted red. Anything with that "roasty-toasty" profile without being too smoky or heavy. About 0.05 to 0.45 a gram is my typical range, I wouldn't spend over 1.5 a gram myself, but I know people who do.
Price doesn't necessarily correlate with how nice the tea is - black teas can be pretty nice at 0.05 to 0.20, but something like Oolong its usually worth shelling out a bit more for, and honestly pu'erh is a complete crapshoot on price:quality ratio. I tend to prefer greens and the range I find greens to be best is between 0.25 and 0.50, both on the chinese and japanese side. I know greens can get way more expensive but in my honest opinion it's rarely worth it unless its a gyokuro or matcha, which I'm willing to spend up to 1.5 a gram at the top of my budget.
