Deep set, pathological, “virulent” one might say, self loathing that leads to self sabotage has my kitchen looking a lot worse than the op’s pic. I’m a fairly decent/good looking fit fellow who people often presume I have my shit together, but my house is a reflection of my internal state, and I say that with reluctance. I didn’t believe in that type of memery previously but after a few years it’s pretty obviously true- what I’m trying to say is, by your definition, I don’t think I’m yet human and I might agree and don’t take it as an insult. The concept of “cleaning and organizing my workspace” as a trait or quality I could have is seriously perplexing at this moment, like I’m inclined not to believe that you possess that quality and are larping, but I’ll suspend my disbelief and see if I can get to that state of normalcy where I value life enough to maintain my surroundings with a modicum of self respect

Forgot to include the “relaxing” part in the quote, for any other struggling anons out there - understand that I’m not opposed to hard work and would like to feel good about myself, but seriously imagining a life where cleaning up after myself is seen as something light and refreshing is kind of a light bulb moment for me right now, not that these are mindblowing ideas but perhaps my squalor had reached a point where I just needed a slight nudge. I’m aware that thru text alone this can seem quite cringe, understatement, to make cleaning (it’s not just cleaning, but also other basic life rudimentaries, for instance not keeping up on laundry yet being able to solve complex problems) out to be some sort of boogeyman, that’s not my intention. But to recognize that chores and tidying up is seriously being friendly to my future self, it’s pretty fucking obvious and I’ve intellectually “known” these sentences for years but maybe this fugue state is over. Thanks for the thread lads

Clean as you go, my man. First thing I do once my sink is clear from rinsing veggies, etc is fill it up with soapy water. As soon as I'm done with a utensil, it goes right into the sink. When you have some downtime (pasta's boiling, meat's cooking, whatever), wash some dishes.

Also, my life was drastically improved by just limiting how much silverware, china and glassware I kept out. Most of my shit is in a box somewhere and I take it out when I have company. Otherwise, a setting for 2 is all I really need, so even if I get every dish dirty it's less than a sinkful.
