Lots of bulk buy meals like that freeze well. It's the difference between spending 40 up front and having 20 meals at the ready vs spending maybe 4-5 a meal for a total cost of 80-100.

>> No.18185478

I don't have a problem with that specifically because theoretically you will use the other stuff in other meals. I just think he lies about ingredient prices in general, I cook bottom of the barrel food and there is no meal you can make for $2 that's not just unseasoned rice and beans or something like that. What he has in that bowl looks to be at least 4 ounces (more likely closer to 8) of chicken, and that's around a dollar on its own being very generous.

I think a better idea would be to help people build a pantry and use said pantry to create a variety of meals. like what if he went to the store and spent 50 bucks and over the week he used only the ingredients from that 50, that is far more realistic than what he does.

That's exactly what you do when you cook in bulk dumbass. If you don't want to eat the same thing for two weeks and you have the freezer space you can eat half as lunchboxes that coming work week and then make something new and then eat the rest of the servings after you've had a break from it eating the second set of food you made.

Like, my dude its 20 servings, at two meals a day that's just two work weeks. There are people who eat the same fucking microwave meals every single day all year round. I'm sure you can manage two weeks of the same meal if you're strapped for cash and cooking in bulk.

For the sake of cheapness, I'll omit ingredients that make it better and I'll round up heartily.

4lbs of chicken breast $15
2 32oz cans of crushed tomato $5
1 block of parmesan $5
1 garlic clove 50c
1 whole onion 50c
3 eggs 50c
1lb pasta $3
Spit of flour $1
Spunk of panko breadcrumbs $1
A half gloop of oil $1
A non-white people amount of seasoning $2.5

$35 for at least a week's worth of decent chicken parm. You could easily stretch it out to two weeks with another pound of pasta. It's also pretty scalable, this is just the amount I used last time. You could find deals on all these items frequently as well.

If you have a non retardedly stocked kitchen (you don't) you'd probably only need to go out to buy the chicken and cheese. Eating cheap is easy but it does take SOME proactivity which is why half you retards struggle to do it.

Yeah you're using the jar but the taste is the same and doesn't cost shit loads for exotic ingredients. Total cost is like $8. Yep, and that's how restaurants really make their money. An individual serving of that might cost you $10 plus the added "cost" of making it yourself, but if you're planning on serving a thousand of these then it could very well be $2 when dealing in bulk rates while using some of the profit to pay for those making it, maintaining the building and equipment, and then obviously profit.

I'm lazy to the point that I have to just eat potatoes, onions, etc on their own for a week or else they'll end up going bad before I get through the bag. Even if I have nothing else to eat, I'd rather skip a meal than spend more than 30min in complete prep time and cleanup. Stuff like guacamole is quick enough, but again I'll have to eat guac for a week or else the various ingredients will just be eaten one-off.

So yeah, OP's point applies to me, and pointing out the obvious fact that I'm kind of defective doesn't make it any less valid.

Ten pounds of very good basmati on Amazon is under $14 right now. I have a large airtight container just for this. The spices will get you but garam masala sold in bulk. Marshalls is also very good and is sold in 10oz containers for $12. Fresh split chicken breasts are 97c per pound on sale this week (Vons, San Diego, Ca.). You process one to two of them for yourself. Coconut milk ranges from $1-3 usually, I got some in bulk for $1 a can also Amazon. Then look at the ingredients in garam masala. What you do is add a little more of each and more to taste of those that you prefer. If you do not know what that is yet then just follow the recipe for now.

After you make your first butter chicken with basmati rice you have 148-149 cups of rice left. A tub of masala for a thousand Indian dishes. Pounds of frozen chicken for the next dish. Garam masala and coconut milk is what you want to start with. You can get more coriander, cumin, etc. (what's in masala) over time when it goes on sale. I don't like cumin very much so I will add more coriander and just do like half a tsp of cumin. Garam Masala already has plenty for me.

Break down your shopping into protein (pb, eggs, meats, fish), carbs (pasta, bread, flour), veg, herbs/spices, and grocery (soap etc). Then bookmark the ad pages of every store within range. Every week pop open the ads and see what the sales are. Over time you will get a sense of the real price of foods and what is a deal to spend on.

Some tips:

>Buy in bulk at the lowest price then shop for smaller amounts as you go
>find the discount aisles in each store you visit, they all have at least one area
>Immigrant markets are your FRIEND. Find where they are and get their ads.
>You can buy some food and toiletries online cheaper, and at higher quality (e.g., bulk bags of good rice, paper, etc)
>If you have the room freeze your on-sale protein and get your veg fresh
>Potatoes, onions, and carrots sell dirt cheap in bulk bags. Learn to cook with these.
>Rice is a staple and there are a thousand ways to eat it
>Learn recipes that stretch out proteins with vegetables, rice, and pastas
