is there a more fucking pathetic field of study than nutrition?
>nothing but epidemiological studies when asking the big questions on diet, basically worthless
>clinical studies mostly limited to absolute fucking GARBAGE where they do some megadose of some micronutrient that you might get out of 15x the daily recommended intake of red wine or dark chocolate and it has some marginal health benefit
>DUHHRRRR ITS A REVOLUTION NEW HEALTH FOOD!!!
>field has massively grown during the obesity epidemic and obesity keeps rising
>field blames people for not following their recommendations instead of trying to figure out where their recommendations went wrong
>field is also full of obese women for some reason
jack unrelated.

nutrition basically comes down to
>avoid processed foods in favor of fresh ingredients
>eat a variety of foods (not too much of anyone thing)
>listen to your body
anything beyond these general guidelines is pseudoscientific headline bait

I saw a nutritionalist once. I was overweight at the time. I showed her my planned diet. Her biggest contributions were to suggest I have tuna in water instead of tuna in oil(26 calorie difference) and suggest that I try to have seltzer water instead of any flavored drinks(100 calories)

I never went back. She didn't tell me anything I didn't already know from basic common sense,

Everything you listed seem like common annoying symptoms of fields where researchers have to spin the unimpressive results of reproducible studies in order to get recognition/positions, so I'd say the more pathetic thing is just falsifying results from the get-go, going from worthless science to pseudoscience. Studies falsified to support stuff like homepathic dilutions, consumption of placebo substances with no or negative nutritional effects from every other study, etc.

Though I know a lot of people find it more pathetic and cringe to be constrained by academia and private regulation than to outright make up bullshit for stuff that's not knowingly malevolent at best, so I guess quacks aren't cucks or something based.

The issue I see with the field of nutrition is 1) people are retarded, 2) studies are run by corpos and governments with a vested interest in the success of certain crops and 3) the fields done a terrible job implementing change at a policy level. Nutrition psychology has done more for the field of nutrition in the 10 years it's been a field than nutrition has done in the past 90 years

most nutritionists work for school districts, health care facilities and are required to be there by law.

As far as studies go, it's the side job of the univerity professors teaching the next gen of nutritionists. They have to look busy and post to journals. Most of the time, studies I see grabbed up and reposted by media are "pilot" students with dubious subjects of a small money, ie they are people trying to get funding to go further.

I went to a nutritionist - a legit one, well as legit as one can get - and her solution to my weight loss issue was to suggest I pay her $300 a week to get shakes that I would drink and it would be so low carb I would go into ketosis. Does this bitch not realize how much keto friendly food you can buy on $300 dollars a week for one person?

Sounds like was selling you a fish over teaching you to fish.
Pretty lame but I know more than one person who'd take the former every time.

You don't even need shakes or a keto diet to lose weight. Simply be in a caloric deficit and do some light exercise and you'll lose weight. Eat good fats like olive oil and avocado and eat big steaks and stop snacking. Please send £91 for consultation fee

It bears repeating, though I myself have not posted this thread on this board. It's just astonishing what you hear from certified nutritionists that is OBVIOUSLY WRONG.

>>18166162
Basically. Not even fresh ingredients necessarily. Whole foods (and not the store, which sells tons of processed vegan organic garbage). Stuff that hasn't been SMASHED and SLAMMED into some kind of pseudonutritional paste.
Also I do not understand their obsession with MUH WHOLE GRAINZ. I get that the USDA is trying to market products for farmers but why do nutritionalists drink that kool-aid? are they getting a cut? I don't think so, so how do they gain from parroting something that's obviously wrong? Even whole grain modern wheat is nutritionally worthless. Even ancient grains don't really meet the nutritional needs of a modern, more sedentary lifestyle. Our ancestors ate shitloads of bread because most of them worked outside all day most forms of recreation also required physical activity. There are no essential nutrients we need to get from grains, leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, even tubers and legumes are better sources of phytonutrients than gr*in yet it's their fucking obsession.

That and fucking fruit, which is one step away from sugar and was only available seasonally. Especially modern fruit which has been SMASHED and SLAMMED into cultivars that overwhelmingly favor sugar content and shelf life over nutritional profile.

You know as much as it is a meme, making great guac with just veggies + salt is damned easy and is cost comparable to chicken breast in price.
When I can get cheap avocado I just make a bowl of that, let it sit in the fridge to set, then eat it with a spoon.

What's the meme? Right now avocados are pretty cheap in Australia so I've been buying them for sushi and for side salads. I know a few people who'll just eat the whole avocado with a dash of salt and lemon juice, straight out of the skin

> Simply be in a caloric deficit
Not so simply. 100 callories from fats or proteins not equal 100 callories from carbs. Fat accumulation is all about insulin in blood and insulin spikes. And you can partially suppress spikes after meal by simply walking.
Therefore less carbs, more exercises, light caloric deficit to form new eating habits.

Fruit is fine as long as you keep it to 2-3 whole fruits a day or some kind of equivalent. I generally have an apple and banana a day or something similar. Way better than 99% of foods out there and they help keep you full when you have them with a meal.

You will lose the same amount of weight in a high carb diet as a low carb diet. He said lose weight, not burn fat. Caloric deficit is all that matters in weight loss.

Yeah.
> He said lose weight, not burn fat
Shitty approach that not revolving fat problem, just masking it by muscle burn and water loss.

You seem to be under the weird impression that carbs have a massive impact on your ability to burn fat and they don't. Obese or overweight people will have no trouble losing fat if they operate on a caloric deficit. The difference you're talking about isn't as drastic as you appear to believe it is. It has an affect but it's unnecessary for weight loss or fat burning.

Burn weight and fat is one deal, maintain new is another. And here eating habbits play greater role.
> “After the experiment was complete and they could eat whatever they wanted, many men ate as many as 10,000 calories a day. All the men gained their weight back and most of them gained 10 percent more than their starting weight.”
Yes you can simply starve, but you regain all losses after end of new "diet". And changes in the lifestyle like cutting carbs can help with forming and maintaining new eating habbits.

Calories in calories out is only really applicable to someone who's metabolically healthy and most obese, and many overweight people aren't. Many people of a 'healthy' weight who mostly eat junk food may even have prediabetes, or visceral fat.

Like the other anon said simply cutting your calories back doesn't create a systemic change in your life. It usually makes you miserable and you end up yo-yo dieting on and off and will never be happy with yourself. Instead of taking 'drastic' measures like cutting out foods that are very easy to overeat on. Which isn't just carbs, some 'keto' foods like cheese and toasted nuts are also stuff that you should limit or avoid even though it might not take you out of ketosis because they're so calorically dense.

But in general, carbs are easier to overeat on than protein or fat. Fat has 2x as many calories per gram but is immensely more satiating. I can eat 2 hamburger patties, a tin of sardines and a cup of kefir, this is ~1,200 calories, and feel satiated for an entire day. I can eat 1,200 calories of pizza and eat another 1,200 calories of pizza a few hours later.
