Cheese no question about it. I can't remember if it was Dominos or Pizza Hut I ordered from a while back but I paid for extra cheese and it was barely noticeable so now I just get pizza from Papa Murphy's and they do a fine job

It’s important to have a quality sauce in decent amounts. A shitty sauce will make a shitty pizza no matter how good the rest is. Not quite as important but still vital is the crust. It can’t be too thick or thin, undercooked or overcooked. The crust still has the ability to make or break a pizza. Toppings next. They aren’t necessary because you can have a good cheese pizza, but shitty toppings can ruin the experience. Last is cheese. Cheese isn’t unimportant by any means, but if the other 3 are done right you can use some industrial grade plastic slices and still enjoy the pizza. I made myself an Altoona style pizza a while back and even with the Kraft singles, I had made a decent sauce and crust and was able to say that it was pretty good. Only children think the cheese is most important.

It's the sauce. Every time I've eaten a REALLY shitty pizza, I can always pinpoint it back to the sauce. It's either too sweet, or bitter, but no matter what, it sticks out more before anything else. Can you have shitty cheese? Sure. Can you have shitty dough? Sure, sure. But the sauce is the thing that hits your tongue first. It has the most robust flavor.
