Me and my sister are in our 30s.
She became a gradeschool teacher, married, has kids, and is filled with "I KNOW EVERYTHING".
I trained at restaurants during college, got a mechanical engineering bachelors, worked at Boeing, traveled the world, and done whole loads of random shit, single, no children... so I'm the "idiot older brother".
She gifted me a set of gotham crap pans. I used them rarely, most of my cast iron dates from the 1890's to 1920's finding them in thrift stores.
Had a family party at my house. She and the other women forced me out of my own kitchen.
The pan result after everything was done, they managed to scratch the destroy the gotham pans, and looked like they tried to destroy my cast iron, found them in the dishwasher.
Even though they didn't rust I had to give them a hard brushing and sear in a fresh coating. Gotham pans I tossed away.
She's over a few months later, and among other shit flinging she argued with me about my "new" cast iron pans.
Nope, those are the same ones you ladies tried ruining last time.
But she also gives me shit for driving a '66 Impala, not being anti-gun, and having better control over her kids than she does (it does take a few minutes to tame them when she comes over, obviously a terrible mother, doesn't help that brother-in-law is mentally disabled living on Social Security Disability his entire life).
Choices people.
For cookware I choose the pans of the Gods, instead of disposables.

The only two times I've ever had my cast iron pan rust was when my wife put it in the dishwasher, and then a year later when she burned our kitchen down shallow frying in it and then forgot about it changing a nappy.

Both times I just re seasoned it and was good to go.

I don't care about this earth and have enough money, so I'll keep buying disposable commodity. Will it kill me? Maybe. But 1 year longer in this clown world sounds like too much suffering anyway.

Bros, why does my seasoning always come off when cooking? I have tried every type of grease and oil, have tried one layer to five layers, and my pans will look beautiful and feel super slick, but the seasoning either comes off during cooking, or immediately when washed

I've stripped it and reseasoned three or for times. It's the same resukt each time. The pans turn out beautiful and are dark black, but the seasoning comes off again when cooking with them, or the first time I wash them with water

What material? Cast iron, carbon steel, wrought iron or something else?
From personal experience I would say that getting seasoning to stick reliably is vastly easier on cast iron than carbon steel.
Anyways, here's what I do: Wash pan when it is new with soap and try to get any factory coatings off. Optionally you can use steel wool. Put pan into oven at 250˚C or as high as your oven will go. Let it heat up a bit.
Add oil (I use flaxseed) with a towel or paper towel thinly but evenly all over the pan, inside and outside. Wipe with paper towel until it almost looks dry again. Put in oven for 45 mins-1h at the 250C. One layer is done, now repeat for how often you want new layers. Bonus points for letting the pan cool down after each layer before applying the next layer. If you have carbon steel consider using another oil, because linseed is harder from personal experience, but in exchange it chips easier too.
That gives me a great base for my pans. From there you can build more seasoning through use.

Trace amounts of it are actually vital to human health. If you are ever diagnosed as iron-deficient, cooking with cast iron will actually be recommended as beneficial to you.
