Katz Deli, not worth it at all.
Also I don't know if Johnnie's in Elmwood Park counts but my grandma lived a block from them and we'd always get lunch there. Best fucking beefs and lemon ices you've ever had. Got mentioned on that Ozarks series.

I had no idea it was from Seattle. I think I ate there once and don't remember it at all.

I've never been to Seattle! That and um I guess Dallas and Atlanta are the biggest US cities I never been to (and honestly am ok with not seeing).

I just hate the markup for hotel and resort food. I try to make my own food when I travel - where possible - and eat at locally owned small places if I can find them.

I don't trust people willing to even LIVE in NYC. To me you are all damaged goods. Also it smells like cat piss and I hope to never return.

I dunno if DC has like famous tourist traps?

I think fishers and farmers is pretty tourist trappy - zatinya gets lotsa tourists, um old ebbitt grill and anything near the white house is probably a trap

most tourists seeing the monuments aren't willing to walk and so they get shitty food - i think the food trucks are probably the best option

I was on a lot of drugs at the time and I found it quite enjoyable and felt the donuts themselves were nice as well.

They have this chain now of "mochi" donuts - I think they are made from fried glutinous rice flour and they come in weird flavors like passionfruit glaze and they were really good and now I want one.

"mochinuts" is the donut chain - korean owned I think? - NOT a tourist trap!

OH dc has cupcake traps - i think for years georgetown cupcakes had lines out the ass for reasons

i guess georgetown is tourist trap food in general

Nope. Real stuff. Just really, really hated it. Tasted like a sour basement. And! For the longest while, I kept forgetting I hate passionfruit so I kept trying it. I mean... it's fucking called "passionfruit." You just expect it to be good.

As for papaya, friend, I spent a significant portion of my childhood in SEA. Trust me. I know papaya and I know I dislike it ripe. I'll fuck up some green papaya, though. Sour chicken soup with taro stem and green papaya is tits.

Oh yeah when I was a kid sometimes we would travel and when you were on like a package tour trip somewhere they would feed you all together at a shitty hard rock cafe but I knew I wasn't there for the food.

They took us to a sugar shack outside Montreal and they made us maple candy that was just maple syrup rolled over ice and I didn't like it and commented on it and I'm still a bit embarrassed - they also served us tourtiere - meat pie - that was good

but yeah I guess I ate at hard rock cafe montreal maybe?

worst food I had on a trip -srsly - was the lunch after the auschwitz tour - it was these chicken sandwiches with weird orange gloppy mayo - too much mayo - very little mealy chicken

I do remember all the boys being mindful of pricing when placing our orders, but all the girls splurged out on their orders to the point that they were short on paying the entire bill so the chaperones had to intervene to cover the difference. If I ever return, I'm keeping a close eye on my budget.

Seconded. I remember seeing this design during one of my visits as a child. They have since done multiple interior and exterior redesigns in the past decade or two that I have entered or driven past it on vacation. It's understandable that they would update the place, but the current iteration feels sterile and soulless compared to earlier designs which had more character.
>they had pizza there and possibly pasta as well
A couple decades ago, McDonald's started up an initiative for fast-casual food called McDonald's Bistro Gourmet which included these types of items. I remember seeing multiple locations in Florida offering this extra menu but eventually the project came to end and the menu was eventually gutted at all participating restaurants save for this location. I enjoyed it the few times I ate from this menu and still hope to do so whenever I visit Orlando again.

Then she took my on the ferris wheel. It was a brisk autumn day, and I remember wearing my winter jacket. Miss you, grandma. I wish you guys could try her fried stuffing patties at thanksgiving. The woman was very obese. One day she took me to a firework store and it was like buy 1 get 6 free because it was the off season and I got six piggly wiggly grocery bags filled with legit fireworks. My parents had a heart attack when they picked me up from grandma’s and I dragged $300 worth of fireworks to the car. One time I remember I ate a whole family sized bag of sour cream and onion chips while watching nickelodeon at her house. Another time, I had a headache and she made me a killer chocolate shake with advil blended into it. When I got my first apartment, she was too old to cook and gave me her pans. Kobe Japanese restaurant Vancouver.
Regular meal is probably not a horrendous deal. 75 bucks cad for dinner, and a show is at least not unreasonable.
But the hundred for a bit of Wagyu seems like a shit way to try it when they cover it, and everything else in a heavy amount of butter, and some I think garlic salt mix. Everything kind of tastes similar, and you really don't get to taste the meat on its own.
Also, don't care for restaurants that are so dark you can't see shit for ""ambiance"". Don't care how boomer that sounds

As a Philly native, I went to Pats and Genos. I prefer Genos because they don't automatically serve it with the neon slime from n*w j*rsey. I also used to get roast pork sandwiches from DiNics before it was cool. Thety do make a bangin' sandwich though, better than most places. John's Roast Pork would be nice if they used broccoli rabe, but they don't because "hurr durr why would i add such a bitter ingredient to my fabulous roast pork!". The sandwich has broccoli rabe and if you can't make a pork to compliment it you shouldn't be making roast pork sandwiches. Rabe is a necessity.

Said they would take care of our car for us as there were a lot of bad people around.. essentially a not so veiled threat. Dude who drove us gave the talking leader negro some money. Food was alright, staff had an attitude all around, car was untouched when we came out.

Hard Rock Cafe, went twice many years ago. It was okay and had a fun atmosphere.

Vortex, went twice and was disappointed both time. Major pain in the ass in just parking, getting a table, getting food and then being disappointed by the food. Hipsters hyped it up way way hard back in the day and it's pretty much coasted on that for like 2 decades.

Shakespeare Tavern, kind of a restaurant and I think it's a recommended tourist thing for Atlanta. Nice vibes inside but they "ran out" of certain meals but I got the impression they didn't run out so much as they just didn't have it at all and just wanted to fluff the menu.

The Varsity, it's like cafeteria food. Used to go there occasionally on the way to a show at the old Masquerade. Don't bother unless you just have to get your picture taken inside wearing their paper hat.

When my dad went to NYC, he went to the typical "best pizza" restaurants, and some famous bakery. I think the bakery even had its own TV show for a while. He liked the pizza places but was very unimpressed with the bakery. They prioritized huge, flavour-less fondant cakes, had a poor selection of cookies, pies, muffins, the small stuff. I think he ended up paying something crazy, maybe $40 USD just for a dozen cookies and a slice of cake. They were your everyday, bland sugar cookies and a cake that tasted like it came from a box. He told people not to stop there.

it depends where they are. i have some effing great places in my hometown which are locally famous but will never transgress to selling out or becoming tourist traps, because frankly I live in the middle of nowhere.

but, any place that survives and becomes a local tradition in a major city is at risk of becoming a tourist trap. especially true for any place that was around in the "golden era" of said city.... look at the deli's in NYC, Pinks in LA, all those weird bourbon street places.
