this is work typically done by the woman of the house, so her time is not valuable. for single men, if you live in france you likely pass a bakery on the way to work, so picking up bread along the way is no great task. even if it did take 30 minutes (it doesnt), it would be time well spent, better than wasting it posting on 4chan.

If you live in a city, there are bakeries literally everywhere so it's really not a problem.

If you add glycerol monostearate + sodium stearoyl lactylate to your bread it will stay moist for a week or more

If you also add a pinch of calcium propionate powder - it will keep without staling. Just wrap it tightly in plastic and it will be fine.

That just always seems so odd to me anywhere outside off my country. We have bread bakeries and pastry shops as two separate things. While it does happen, it's extremely rare to have the two in one store and I strongly prefer the separation, likely because it's the system I grew up with.

As I said last thread, I just nab a loaf omw home. There's a bakery right at the top of the stairs from the underground/the metro and it's under two minutes to walk in, get a loaf, pay and walk out. Also as said last thread, if I stop in during that unlucky period between the baker selling off the last loaf of a batch but before the next batch come out of the oven, it's only a ten minute wait, which isn't a problem since I'll just use the time to walk one street over to the deli/cheese shop and get some other things then back to the bakery from my fresh loaf.
Easy af.

Now then, if it's a weekend, that's different. Growing up, my parents bought three loaves on Friday rather than head over there both Saturday and Sunday and we'd eat them over the weekend. I hate day-old bakery bread so after much complaining to that end, my mother started buying the Friday loaf and some fresh dough to take home and bake herself. Not as good as the bakery, but better than day-old bread.
As for me, I either just don't eat bakery bread on weekends, opting instead for sliced supermarket bread, homemade flatbread or eating some other carb like rice or bulgur, or make the oh-so-pain-staking 3-minute walk to a different, closer-to-my-house bakery (there's one at my corner, too, but that one's not very good for bread; decent pizza, though).

So yeah. It's literally 2 minutes out of your day to buy fresh bread daily.

I dated a Nigress during while I was at college. She worked at a cafe. Someone came in one day and ordered a ham sandwich. She started buttering the baguette. The guy starting speaking French at her, which she does not speak. He apologised, saying he thought she was French because she was buttering the baguette and she said, in her very black American accent, "nah, the bread is just dry as hell."
I still laugh about that to this day.
I guess any good-looking black person with unblemished skin and non-urban fashion sense is thought of as being "other" because she often gets mistaken for African, as well. She resembles the daughter from that Wonder Years reboot (who actually is African), but with a very different hair style.

It takes them five minutes to walk to a store (and about twenty minutes to walk to the next city over)
You have to keep in mind that European provinces are basically the size of American cities, like the entire country of France is smaller than Texas. You can legit bike from one side of the country to the other and back in a day, you don't even need a car.
So they walk maybe 1 mile from their house to the bakery, grab their bread and walk home. I think the furthest a European would ever travel in a single day is 5 miles, anything more than that and they consider it an ordeal. They have to rent a car for it and it's considered a road trip.

I lived in the french countryside and basically it’s on your way home. The village I was in didn’t have a bakery but there were many of these elsewhere. They even have these vending machinese here and there and they are a life saver.

In cities it’s basically absolutely everywhere so it’s impossible to miss one on the way home.

lol I dont live in suburbia or have a hoa. And my mortgage was paid off two years ago. I bought my property when I was 20. And why the fuck would I want to walk anywhere. I own multiple personal vehicles stored in a three car detached garage. I get it, you cope by taking great pride being cubbyholed with your neighbors living on top and below you in an urban hellscape and having the privilege of having to walk everywhere you go all year long. Some people just take great pride in mediocrity, and you're one of those people.

Suburbia doesn't include towns like Paoli or Media PA. It's made of shit like Levittown and North Jersey Sprawl. Technically there are some sidewalks, but they are not universal or even dominant. There are many intersections that can not be legally much less safely crossed on foot without running ahead of turning cars. I live in Philadelphia. And we're an old established city and even our burbs have a lot of the nonsense you seem to deny exists. In fact, even in the city and thanks to the Highway Commission, there are stroads and pedestrian no-go zones.

You'd think in ALLLLLLLL that space you'd have been able to figure out how to plan a fucking township better. But you just fucked it up every time. A goddamn retard rerun.
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, but in your case it wasn't insanity. After all, expecting something requires thinking about it, and thinking doesn't come naturally to the suburbanite.

Rednecks and cityslickers can agree on one thing, suburbanites are the worst thing to happen to the world. All the failure of city life and rural life, and none of the benefits. You're in a wilderness of ugly houses, shit children, beta fathers and smug mothers.

I'm so happy seeing all my fellow frogmen and euros defending our walkable bakeries. I've never lived somewhere that didn't have a bakery within ~2 minutes of walking, and there only ever a queue on sundays morning before and after mass, and at 12pm during the week if it's a chain store which serves sandwhiches and whatnot for people on their lunch break. Otherwise, it's generally faster than taking money from an ATM.

You realize Europeans have livable cities right? They don't need to go out of their way and slog through car traffic to get to the nearest hypermarket 15 km away to get their hands on stale plastic bread. They just grab one at innumerable bakeries on their way to/from work as they're walking, cycling, or doing the last few hundred meters walk from the nearest metro station.

Bumfuck is almost completely unpopulated. Over 80% of Americans live in Urban settings, and the majority of rural people live in rural towns (at most 15 minutes from the main-town grocer), or suburbs pretending not to be urban. And you’re almost certainly driving into an urban setting to work, even if it means you chose a two hour commute each way.

Fuckin' tell me about it. I backpacked the American south one summer (if you guys can backpack my country, I'll do the same to yours) and the whole city just seemed devoid of anything worthwhile AND it wasn't remotely walkable. They still had signs up directing people to the '92 Olympics, ffs!
I was going to spend a few days there, but it felt so... off... that I got on the first bus out of there after only five hours in town proper (and one hour in Doraville, just outside).
Wound up in Nashville. Much preferred it, even though it was also not walkable. Met some people when I got there, wound up going to a party then clubbing then staying the night at this one dude's place. Good times.
And about walkability, of all the southern cities I visited, only two were remotely walkable, New Orleans and Savannah. Atlanta would be if you only count the very centre of town as the city proper, but due to the huge amount of sprawl and inexplicable lack of trees (and therefore no shade in the summer), it made walking anywhere a truly herculean task.

Do the French always have someone else do something for them? Can't bake their own bread guess we need five bakers for every 7 citizens guess we'll make fun of Americans because they have enough food to get obese AND help other countries. But France never needed Americans help not one time once ever.
