Hey im fermenting for the first time. Someone on here suggested garlic and honey. Do i have to discard the ones on top that stick out of the honey?

I don't think you have to throw them out as long as you have something to keep them submerged in your liquid.

just mix it up frend, and maybe invest in a bigger jar
could get dangerous with how little headroom you have given it, make sure to burp it daily

is there a rule of thumb how much headspace is needed? I will throw the top ones away now

You don't need more liquid, put something on top of it to weigh it down so it stays submerged.

would the fermentation still work with crystallized honey ? if so, get some, warm it up so it liquefies and then push down the garlic until it goes back to being solid

would a little spoon work?

that disk think with holes in it in the back would be perfect if it fit.
