Nothing depressing about that, on the contrary. Use fresh oregano it grows in the wild nowadays (now that's depressing). Cook your pasta properly. Add a tomato and a courgette if you can (they're in season and becoming cheaper).

Tansy, lovage and savory are also great herbs if you can't find oregano.

Spaghettie alla carbonara has a cream and egg sauce with chunks of fried bacon. Basically is bacon and eggs pasta and it's fucking delicious. My first evening in Italy, in Turin no less I ate it in a beautiful old 1930's restaurant with wood wainscotting. I felt like I was in Fellini's Amaracord.
