The corporations intentionally compartmentalize their businesses by creating various shell entities so if one causes a responsibility mishap, it doesn't affect the parent company as much. Companies then set up frustratingly time wasting bureaucratic mazes so the consumer gives up on their quest of retribution. Large corporations take no responsibility for their actions anymore, the government has no power over them and it's now the corporations who control the government. Welcome to the Corporatocracy, try not to be a poor or else you'll end up a debt slave to the system.
