Vinegar and Honey mixed with the vegtables might be the only way to go. Vinegar will replace some of the water and add a flavor, and honey will coat the tops to make them edible at first.

Go to 175 C for 15 minutes and check on them every 5 minutes after (or 350 F if you live in a civilized nation).
