Do serranos taste any different than jalapenos or are they just slightly hotter? I just bought a few to make some salsa but I haven't used them in a long time.

>Do serranos taste any different than jalapenos or are they just slightly hotter?

I've been eating both my entire life and serranos are not 'slightly hotter'. It's almost triple the amount of spicyness for me. I could eat jalapenos all day but serranos pack quite a punch and can only be eaten in moderation. As for taste, it's very similar.

>> No.17753854

>>17753824
Jalapeno's lowest scoville is 2,500, if we multiply that by 9 we get 22,500. Given that the highest scoville of a Serrano is 22,000, you're exaggerating. At best, a serrano is 8 times hotter than a jalapeno.

modern scoville is based on capsaicin concentration with 16 million units being pure capsaicin. it's measured by HPLC and absolutely objective. how "spicy" you think something is is subjective.
