English cuisine thread

Why can’t they make good food. I don’t understand the British. What the fuck is wrong with them in general. Why are totally fine with having a dystopian surveillance state? How did they manage to go from ruling the world to being poorer than fucking Ireland in less than a hundred years?

Oh, hush. They make plenty of good food, it's just not fancy or exotic food. It's simple comfort food.

The people you think of as "British" (I.e. Most of the House of Commons, the Royal Family, et al) are, in fact, Frankish-Normans descended from the eponymous William the Conqueror and his peers. The general population, the "native" anglos are a naturally subservient and dimwitted slave race.

There is plenty of great English food but its not flashy, just stuff like great pies, roasts, stews etc. English cheddar is one of the best cheeses in the world. Ignorant people will pretend like English food is fish head pies, toast sandwichs and jellied eels but those are novelties.
I would take a proper English roast over mexican slurry or Asian rice paste any day

>> No.17674250

I'm English and there is plenty of English food I like well enough - a good roast, fish and chips, pork pies. But it does sadden me that with the exception maybe of beer and cheese, we really haven't elevated food to the level that the French, Italians, or Japanese have. It's weird in some ways because we have all the natural produce you could dream of, but almost no one is prepared to do anything interesting with it.

>brekkie
full english breakfast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, black pudding and toast
maybe sub the toast for some crumpets or (english) muffins
>lunch
sandwich (invented by the english) ham and cheddar cheese with a slice of pork pie, a scotch egg or sausage roll
>tea
scones with clotted cream and jam, nice cuppa earl grey tea
>dinner
shepherds pie, toad in the hole or a full roast
>desert
rum and raisin bread and butter pudding

third worlders and pseuds will never appreciate it but its comfy.

british food is MAXIMUM comfy
I'm only visiting but I didn't even bother with restaurants yet because the supermarket has so much tasty stuff

I try like every kind of pie, pasty, and sausage roll in the oven and they're so good bros

also the ready meal section btfo's american supermarket's
lots of indian dishes, shepherd's pie, etc.

and I did not know pork pies were eaten cold / room temp. branston pickle is pretty good. I want to try more chutney and things like that. recommend me british sandwich or cold/lunch stuff bros

>> No.17674840

>>17674708
If you've not had a Scotch Egg yet that is well worth it. Make sure you get a nice premium supermarket one, the cheap ones are still tasty but can be a bit skimpy on the pork

>> No.17674869

>>17674840
Should add like Pork Pies they are best cold/room temp. In fact (somewhat controversially) I would argue that most pasties, slices, and sausage rolls are better cold or at room temp. Try both and decide - there are lots who would argue both ways.

does Piccalilli go on sandwiches

what kind of chutneys or pickled or preserved vegetables are good on sandwiches

I notice some chutneys are like 50% sugar by weight so I am confused what they are for lmao

>> No.17675507

>>17674708
Picalilli. Stick some of that on a ham sandwich. Or a good old ham, cheese and Branston if you like that? Get some good cheddar cheese and a big, crusty loaf of bread.

Cheese on toast too. I like mine with loads of Lea and Perrins sauce. In fact it would be criminal to make cheese on toast without it.

Then I didn't read all the way to the end before replying. But yeah, see my reply for Picalilli recommends.

Are the ones you are looking at wih sugar Jams or preserves? Like fruit, strawberry, blackberry etc? Just spread them on toast, typically eaten as breakfast time.

How can white people eat like this?

>> No.17675866

>>17672059
It's a matter of culture and mindset, really. On one hand, you have world-class Michelin star chefs, on the other you have the sorts of people who think a Carbonara is high class cuisine. There's a lot of good stuff you can do on this island if you put your back into it and some of the English do, but most prefer to gush over how good cheese and onion crisps are.
