Should I spend the extra money for Lodge cast iron or is chinkshit fine?
I don't know what goes into the seasoning oil for chinkshit.

Lodge is trash. Go to a Goodwill center and find a noname pan, clean it, then season. It's with be better quality,

I only have Lodge, it's good but I never even tried any other brand. Is there really a difference between a well seasoned Lodge and higher end brands or vintage stuff?

>> No.17647375

lodge is "ok" for new stuff but it's not great, if you can find a reasonably priced wagner or griswold you'll be a lot better off, shit lasts forever so it's worth it to spend the money and get something good

i have lodge but i sanded the inside smoothish and re-seasoned, it's pretty good but still heavier than an old pan, if i had it to do again i'd just go vintage from day 1

i don't let anything from china touch my food if i can help it

>> No.17647570

My lodge pan is older than all of you fuckers, but I agree, nothing from commie China. Otherwise, you are good to go

>> No.17647842

Just buy carbon steel instead. Smoother and less heavier.

Lodge isn't sanded (to keep the production cost low), so it isn't smooth at all; which makes it stickier than it should be.
Unfortunately I got fucked by Lodge, but now I have no reason to replace them. It improves over time, and you can use steel-brushes yourself, but this should be done at the factory.
Some anons I think simply let the new ones rust for some time, remove the rust with a steel-brush, and then only start using them.

there really is no real proof that lodges pebbly surface actually makes food stick
their factory season isn't great though

what does the C stand for in CCP?

no the other C

the quality of modern Lodge cookware is pretty bad, I dont think a cheaper chink cast iron skillet would be significantly worse. But I would completely strip all the factory seasoning and re-season it by myself
