I visited Asheville, NC a few years ago.

I had my cannabis medical card back then and I brought an assortment of fine bubblegum hash and other goodies with me. I met some nice other young people at a local concert and smoked them out on the patio they had at the venue.

It turns out they were artists and shared a big house somewhere in town. I told them I cook and they invited me over for dinner and to see the art pieces they were about to show.

I made honey mustard fried chicken and it was quite good. They gave me a smol art piece (painting? print?) - I forget ,for free. I happened to let it slip I spent some of my food stamps buying the ingredients for their meal. By the end of the trip, we were running pretty low on cash. We did a lot of fun things like whitewater rafting, zip-lining, and caving in the area, and the woman we had met at a concert invited us to the sushi restaurant she worked at for lunch.

I didn't try to order anything unusually expensive and I had the money to pay and would have but she ended up paying for our lunch as a token of her appreciation. Pretty nice folks and one of the happier stories I have.

So, I ended up getting comp'd a free sushi lunch for smoking some locals out and making them dinner.

Yes some sushi seems comparatively expensive.
Many types of fish used for it are also “expensive” if directly compared to ground beef and beans.

Kinda simple. Good sushi requires high grade fish flesh, and that shit is expensive. Expensive enough that any serious sushi purveyor acquires their fish directly from markets/auctions. Most people don't understand this, though, and this is not well known outside of Japan- so they crank the prices on every kind of sushi roll and get away with it because it is what people expect (and there is a pervasive idea that cheap sushi will be awful and potentially even harmful).

OP is a lying piece of shit.

That California roll made with surimi stick and cucumber would sell for $10 USD at most. The cucumber is added to make it cheaper, as is the fake crab. If it were a real CA roll, meaning made with whole Dungeness crab meat from an actual leg segment and no cucumber (the only green should be avocado), then MAYBE it sells for $20+ USD.

As for the "Mexican" food, that's at least a $12.99 platter. Maybe it was $4.50 back in the late 1900s, but it hasn't been less than $10 since the Obama administration.
