It makes sense for how the dough is formed. A dough mound is rested and becomes roughly spherical, and wants to stay roughly spherical. Flattening it evenly produces an end result that is roughly circular. Prettying up the rough circle makes it a nice circle, and thus you result in your common pizza shape.

A square shape is unnatural when looking at the process of making the dough, though it is possible (hence, your sicilian/detroit style).

Thin crust/Non-deep dish pizza here that isn't complete trash is relatively hard to find and Detroit style is a nice respite from deep dish, which is great but definitely not something you can eat more than once a month max.

Years ago in the upper midwest I stopped in at a small town dinner. I ordered a piece of pizza from the menu. What I got was a six by four inch blob of red sauce, cheese and bread. I was like, holy fuck this ain't no pizza. I tried a forkful and damn it was good. Square, round, I don't really care. If they know how to make pizza it's all good.

Has there ever been a restaurant or chain that specializes in triangle pizza? And no, i don't mean normal pointy pizza slices in a circular pizza. I mean a triangular-baked pizza cut into smaller triangle slices.

Imagine picrel, but as a pizza. Perhaps each side has a traditional crust, or maybe it's made like a thin or pan pizza.
