>lost smell and taste for a week or so, got it back fully a couple weeks later
>fast forward today, a couple weeks ago i started getting hints of distorted smells
>starts becoming more common to not smell things properly, mint for example smells like a dusty old pantry
>as today has gone on i can literally feel my smell going away, and what i can smell increasingly smells like burnt cooking oil

i can still taste well enough, so i can tell when something is sweet, salty, etc, but smell is rapidly becoming fucked. this is horrible anons... my dad is in his 50s and hasnt regained his smell and taste since he got sick and it's been almost a year. im scared ill lose my senses permanently.

I doubt you'll go blind, deaf, lose the sense of touch and taste. Too bad about your smell though. If it's due to kong flu, you can be hopeful that you will recover because young healthy people aren't usually affected by long covid as bad as unhealthy people or old people. Yep same thing happened to me. Totally lost taste and smell back in July, around November it started going downhill again. It seems like it's starting to come back a bit, but some smells seem indefinite, and haven't changed since I first got sick. Some of the smells are really fucking bizarre. I have a theory that it may go in waves/outbreaks, like herpes.

OP's talking about smell though. I've lost my sense of taste temporarily and it's no fucking picnic. There's absolutely no impulse to even swallow what's in your mouth. You have to manually swallow everything eat for the rest of your life.
For reference, get some nail clippers and try clipping some strips of skin off your heel or some other thickened pad of your foot or palm. It's like gristle, you can chew that crap for minutes and not even want to swallow. And that's every meal you take with no sense of taste.

basically anon, your smell is probably gonna be fucked for at least a year BUT in my experience it has improved. the first 3 months kinda suck but it’s much easier if you find something you like to eat. I’ve eaten a shitload of rice and tortillas with hot sauce. probably 200+ times in the last 9 months. also comsoom 2-3 protein shakes a day. I feel a lot better since I’m leaner and don’t eat as much unhealthy stuff now. can’t eat fried food at all. no chocolate. no peppers. etc etc. and anything with seed oils tastes gross, I can always tell the difference. but most other things are fine now.

I’m probably 75% normal smell wise, but I don’t have much desire to go back to eating fried food and unhealthy shit like that anyway. it’s really been a blessing in disguise mostly.

I hate these arguments so fucking much, the point of the jab is to get a relative improvement in your immunity. That does not mean complete safety from the virus (and even if you get it your chances of not being stuck with as severe effects are much better).
It's fine if you don't want to get the jab, realistically it's your choice and it's not like we are ever going to reach herd immunity from vaccination anyways, but just be honest and stop dishonestly framing anecdotes.

yesterday i took 50mg of zinc gluconate like another anon suggested, and im pleased to report my smell actually improved! onion and garlic still have a slightly funky smell, but it has decreased significantly from what it used to be. i also got a set of essential oils and im constantly sniffing them throughout the day. they all smell pretty normal except for peppermint but that has also improved significantly since yesterday. dunno if those actually do anything but at least it reassures me that my sense of smell is still mostly intact.

to make this slightly more /ck/ related today i tried (and failed) to make an omelette in the classic french style, but the pan wasnt hot enough and i just made scrambled eggs. i also made a sautee of onions, mushroom, tomato, jalapeno, garlic to add to the eggs.

i had a bit of leftover anchovies in the fridge and since they go well in tomato sauce i said what the heck and threw a couple filets in there. the smell was incredibly delicious! threw a bit of parsley in at the and and the meal was fantastic.

I had the coof and I had distorted smell and taste for a month. Wasn't vaxxed. Basically no one knows what works and doesn't work to treat specific long covid symptoms, some people have smell and taste return, some don't ever it seems. There's mixed studies on if it comes back fully.

Basically go on r/covidlonghaulers and search "smell". There's tons of recommendations. Start looking into long covid treatments, yes it's real like all other post-viral conditions that have been previously well known. Look into the FLCCC protocol. You may want to consider getting vaccinated, in some cases it removes lingering symptoms - also, in some cases, it makes them worse. Up to you to choose. Best thing to do is start long covid treatments. If it's 3 months and there's no progress, look into smell therapy, yes it's real and insurance may cover it if you get a medical diagnosis. It's pretty effective. Good luck. Btw vax status has no effect on lingering symptoms from mild cases, so there's really nothing you could have done to avoid this.
