I live in a Muslim country. There are two stances on halal food - some people will eat any food as long as it hasn't been prepared with alcohol and pork. So they don't care whether the food/restaurant has been certified halal by the religious department. There's a department branch like the US FDA which food producers apply to if they want their food to be certified halal.

The other school will refuse to eat anything not explicitly labelled halal.

At the same time, there are some stuff which is just silly to label as halal. Like oil, butter, rice, canned beans, and I'd say these olives. If its sold in a halal store, its good enough for most but the most stringent Muslims. And when they're that stringent, they're on the level of extra annoying vegans who make a big fuss about their food anywhere they go anyway.
