I think it's only good if you were born and raised in the US. My family and I moved to Ameriland in the early 90s. Despite being ESL, I got the highest marks in my school every marking period. The school gave out "prizes" to the highest achieving students. We had our choice of several things, depending on our ranking. Top rank (IE me) got a choice between Pizza Hut coupons for four people, a FuncoLand gift certificate and a third option I don't really remember because it was shit.
I, stupidly, picked Pizza Hut the first time. We went, my family and I. It was the worst food I'd ever had up to that point in my young life. It was truly awful. I don't even remember what sort of "pizza" I ordered. I remember it came in a single serving size and it tasted unlike any pizza I'd ever had, which is to say it was very, very bad. The texture was also strange and unpleasant.
I stopped eating after my third bite and none of us finished any of our food, though my dad, who is half American and very, very fat, got close. On the way home, we stopped somewhere for takeaway. Don't recall where or what it was.
Anyway, when it came time again to pick a "prize" (prizes for doing what you're supposed to fucking do is a very American concept) for my marks, I picked a FuncoLand gift certificate because fuck Pizza Hut. Shoulda gotten that the first fucking time.
But yeah: it was table service, even in the 90s.

As far as chain restaurants go it’s pretty decent. I think location goes a long way with these places. I’m in New Jersey but I’ve went to some in Michigan and the quality of the seafood is definitely noticeable. Coastal states probably get fresher product. I told a kid in middle school I went to Red Lobster only for birthdays of family members and he said "yeah because that's the only time you can afford it since your mexican". I think the teacher overheard it (she was mexican herself) and she said I could file a complaint against the white kid if I wanted to and it was solely up to me. Then he started freaking out and begging not for me to file a complaint, he was on the verge of tears. I was like okay whatever. Sometime along the year he invited me over to his apartment. He actually lived in the apartment block beside me, but the price differences in rent were staggering. There we were, living less than a mile away from each other, yet we were separated by an arbitrary fence, and a racist mother that was feeding her prejudice ideas into his head. I look back at it now and I just laugh it off. Deep inside I don't believe he was racist, we went into his place and we ate snacks, but I always had to leave before his mom came home.

Only because your impoverished ass thought that any place that serves lobster is high class.
Red lobster is one of the worst chain restaurants in the biz. For a place who’s main draw is seafood, they do the most shitfull job of cooking it. Either over cooking to the point of rubber or making it so mushy that it’s lost any appetizing features it once had.
Literally the only thing going for the place is their cheddar bay biscuits, and I make a better version of them at home with Colby Jack

>pizza hut

God I miss the old eat in pizza huts.
They are the only chain pizza place that I enjoy because I’m from Philly and even the most mediocre corner pizza joint puts the chains to shame but something about the balance of grease, overleavened dough and heavy hand on the gravy in a Pizza Hut Pan pie creates some sort of alchemy that is much more than the sum of the parts.
Here in Philly, if a pizza joint is really good, it doesn’t even have to deliver and there are little hole in the wall joints that have a line going down the block with pick ups at dinner and lunch

We were poorfags but it just meant we'd go out less frequently- Once per each of our birthdays, so five, and then about three more "spur of the moment" outings. Generally avoided chain restaurants because they weren't worth the price of going out.
We had a 12-30$ a plate Mexican restaurant we'd like to walk to (didn't connect the dots as a kid, but we probably walked because they sold cheap corona by the 6 bottle bucket), a 10-22$ a plate theme 50's diner that was my favorite, a locally owned pizzeria where the manager knew my dad and would come out of the kitchen to shoot the shit when we visited, and a sit-down quality Chinese place.
Only going out 8 times a year, my parents made sure as hell we didn't fuck up these outings by being little shits. Strangers would come up and compliment our family for our table manners.

>I think location goes a long way with these places.
No, it depends on the franchise owner. It's like my local Texas Roadhouse, whoever owns it really cares about how the food is prepared, cooked, served, etc. and always has cute girls on heavy rotation. It's probably one of the best (given the price) steak joints within an hour, and yet every other one I've been to in many other states, they all suck ass. This place is always packed, whereas all the others were maybe at 25-50%. Also Pizza Hut and Red Lobster are both shit here. I think the Red Lobster almost went out of business just before COVID, but they got some of those gibs and probably just fired everyone to keep making the payment on the building. Parking lot is always empty. It's a military town that Hooters only lasted about 10 years in, so if that doesn't reflect how ownership affects this stuff, nothing will.

Have one of the OG ones here, guessing it's paid off. Still has decent traffic though, and the food isn't too bad. It's one of those 'see the sign, fuck it, I want some fried fish' joints where you know what you're getting. Not really any competition for that here. The other seafood joints that are popular don't focus on fried, they do the bucket boils.
