>Eating healthy is SO expensive
>Eating healthy takes too much TIME
I am so, so tired of hearing these things repeated ad nauseum.
It's an excuse to eat like shit. It's to absolve any responsibility of being unhealthy.
I have cooked my own food from the day I moved from home. Why? Because I was fucking broke and cooking from scratch was exponentially cheaper than eating like dogshit.
Did it take some time? Yes, obviously, but annoyingly eating is an integral part of life.
My parents both worked hard, long hours, tired as shit coming home. But every night they cooked together and we ate as a family. We were low-middle class.
There is no excuse to feed yourself or children garbage other than pure laziness.
I'm tired of this being normalized.
Eating healthy isn't expensive
Eating healthy takes minute amounts of more effort than going through the drive through or heating up frozen junk food.

Almost 700,000 people die of heart disease in the US each year. Why don't we shine light on this pandemic as well?

Right, so what you're talking about is "scrambled eggs, boiled broccoli, and some shit I bought (plus home made greek yoghurt)". Most people can definitely do that. I think you're missing the point here. It's about cooking healthier alternatives to junk food by yourself. I wasn't suggesting getting good enough at cooking to where you can be on the level of restaurant quality or having the financial situation to afford learning to budget and portion correctly is simple. I'm saying that it is very possible to make simple dishes by yourself if you have some visual reference and enough dedication to fail a few times. That's the biggest obstacle. People value their 'me time' too much to practice cooking for a few hours a week, which is all you would need to easily make a few dishes that taste good enough

>>17410547
A cottage pie would be a full meal. A plate of scrambled eggs and veg is a lazy breakfast. Also I usually buy kimchi to go with shit but I'll grab sauerkraut next time.
It's not hard to cook cheaply and healthily (or at least not-unhealthily) but it is hard to learn to cook cheaply and healthily.
>>17410548
I'm not talking about getting to restaurant quality either, just to getting to the point where your meals are tasty, most importantly tastier than frozen ready meals. It's also about getting to the point where it's just easy to throw a meal together. It's about knowing how to improvise when cooking. It's about reaching the stage where you're no longer buying ingredients like an autistic robot following a recipe you hunted down online before you went out -- now you're just buying stuff you like the look of and you know will go together.
That's fucking hard to learn by yourself. It's extremely easy to learn with someone helping you, but that's not what we're talking about.

After making this thread I'm kinda inspired to make a free cookbook or guide aimed at starting from literally no equipment or skills.
I'd like to write it in a way that makes it so accessible and as cheap as possible that there's little excuse to not give it a shot other than laziness.

Maybe I should try and figure out a super conservative monthly budget and write the recipe guide in a way that will allow people to slowly build up their skill set and equipment while staying within budget. Then over the course of a few months they will have most of the basics down and enough equipment to start with recipes that can help them explore and expand their skills while eating cheap and healthy.

I'd be surprised if something like this doesn't already exist.

I agree that the cooking intuition is something that takes much longer to acquire but I feel like if someone claims that eating healthy is too expensive and too hard they have no one to blame but themselves if they're serious. Yeah, the few dishes you can learn quickly will be more boring and less tasty then frozen shit but they will be cheaper and healthier so either keep going and get good or accept that you lack the dedication. It might be more worthwhile to write a book on how to cook individual ingredients, rather than whole meals. The trouble with recipes for whole meals is retards think you have to follow the entire thing exactly. If you just show them what you can do with broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, ground beef, etc, I think it could go much further. That would be part of it hopefully. I watched good eats growing up at least 40 times through, no joke. I love learning about the how's and why's of cooking or recipes more than the resulting food itself.

But I would also want it to not be too verbose starting out since it's about sparking an interest in cooking and not overwhelming them with loads of up front information.

I think approaching it from extremely basic recipes with bits of information on the ingredients would be a more natural and digestible way for an absolute beginner to work with. Because teaching individual ingredients can be a bit abstract. Seeing how they work in a recipe is more concrete.
And even if people don't care to read the how's and why's parts, they would still be able to follow it as a basic recipe and end up with something to eat. Learning theory is great, but even if they gloss over those parts they still can still gain some bits confidence with the ingredients, even if they don't fully comprehend them.

It's like musicians who learn to play, but never learn to play sheet music. It's hard as fuck and it would've been easier to just learn to read sheet music, but they just barreled on ahead.

No, me too, 100%. I've thought about making a student cooking youtube channel or something, but obviously the real point of it would be to teach you how to think about cooking when you have absolutely zero frame of reference and not much money at all.
The most important thing is that people need to SEE what the fuck "fry until the vegetables turn white" actually means. They need to SEE what golden just-toasted garlic looks like, and what browned meat looks like (as opposed to under-browned or burnt).

You're over thinking shit. Just keep your calories under 1500 and your carbs under 20. If you start feeling hunger, you're either not eating enough fat, getting insulin spikes from bad sugar alcohols (Maltodextrin, Maltose, Dextrose, Maltitol, ect.), or eating shit that claims to be low carb but isn't (some brands of modified wheat starch kick me out of ketosis, while others don't, and it seems to vary from person to person).

I dunno fellas. This goes against everything else i've read about keto. Too few calories results in hair loss, and the metabolism slows to a crawl. I might actually have hit a plateu already in that regard. I've lost 1 - 1,5 and even 2 kilos a week, but 2 weeks in a row now i've remained the same and the week before that i lost 0,5kg.
It's not that i get too hungry, it's just that i don't want to go bald at a faster pace than i need to and i don't want to fuck up my metabolism and gain a chunk of the weight again when i am happy with it.

Hair loss can happen with rapid weight loss on any diet yes, but said hair grows back once you up your calories. It's also the sort of shit that only happens to people loosing 5+ pounds a week. If you're loosing weight that fast, you'll notice and can up your calorie intake before it becomes an issue. I'd be more concerned with the gall stones and other issues that can crop up with such rapid weight loss than hair.

She has two one, aged 23, the other aged 16. Both aren’t fat, but they’re picky eaters.

The 16 year old is underweight because he is a super picky eater. Won’t even drink milk, but he’ll drink a milkshake. He has like a phobia of certain food. I just think he’s autistic, even though he’s not diagnosed.

Most people only perform gluconeogenesis on protein when their carb levels are dangerously low, like you're going to die levels. It's not activated by simply eating lots of protean, for most people. And if it does kick you out of keto? Just call that day a loss and start monitoring your protein more closely. Dal Makhani is in my number one spot right now. I spend an hour cooking and can have dinner set for at least a week. I make rice to go along with it, but that's almost all hands off so it barely adds any time to prepping dinner each night.

Pasta with some sort of sauce is an easy go-to. I typically always have a box of some shaped stuff in the pantry and a can of whole peeled tomatoes. Or if I don't have tomatoes I'll make a quick oil or dairy-based sauce. Add leftover chicken from below if I have it on hand.

Roasted chicken thighs with a side of roasted root vegetables. Sometimes if I'm feeling fancy I'll slice some brussels sprouts in half and sear them on the stove top. Can make multiple nights worth of servings.

Buddha type bowls that mainly consist of roasted root vegetables, chickpeas, chicken, kale or some other oven-wilted brassica green. On top of rice or other grain of your choosing. Add in yogurt or something if you wish. Can make multiple nights worth of servings.

If I really, really can't be assed to do anything at all, a grilled cheese with a can of tomato soup. Not really the healthiest or anything, but something I can get done in less than 10 minutes.

I know you are being ironic but managing your time it's really not hard. Even if you are a lazy fuck you can save time by meal prepping. In under 1 hour I can cook 6 meals worth of food. You could cook only 2 times per week and you would have more than enough for almost the whole week. Most of the time when I cook I use my oven to do huge batches.

I always have some chicken breasts cooked and cooked rice/potatoes in my fridge. I just throw in some quick salad that takes me less than 5 minutes to prep and you have a complete meal.

Chilli with nachos or enchiladas or rice (i make a big batch and eat it throughout the week in different ways)

Roasted Cauliflower and Chicken curry, with cashew sauce with daal, rice or garlic naan, if i can be fucked, onion bhaji too

Spaghetti bolognese

lasagna (i use the leftover sauce)

Halloumi/chicken wraps (the easiest meal in the world, its done in 15 minutes start to finish, SHUT UP single mothers)

stir fry veg with crispy tofu or chickenk, satay sauce, noodles (another thing that can be done in 15 minutes)

i make these meals in big batches, eat them for 4 days in a row and move onto the next one. this is a very economical way to cook in terms of saving time and money, as you can use all the perishable ingredients without having to dream up random things to do with the remainder. this also minimises trips to the grocery store. i know exactly what i'm going to cook before i write a shopping list.

This is so stupid.
I used to work at a McDonalds, and I know for a fact there is a bit you can do to make your meal healthier.
One of which is to change out and subsitute various add ons to your meal, like getting apples instead of fries. Or just get a unsweetened tea or coffee instead diet soda since aspertane is worse for your body than normal hfcs due to it being a mild neurotoxin.

Also who eats a pound of rasberries? It is also full of sugar. Vegetables and low sugar high fiber fruit is what you should be eating for healthy food.
