I wrote this for a thread that is gone but it still applies
>they didn’t microwave our food evenly so it was half frozen and half scorching hot
Applebee’s and other chain restaurants don’t just stuff a TV dinner into the microwave, put it on a plate, and charge you $15 for it. All proteins are cooked to order. Vegetable and starch sides are prepped and portioned in the morning and steamed to order in the microwave. Any fried item goes into the fryer and is definitely not microwaved as you would fucking notice. Furthermore, microwaving certain foods doesn’t cook them in an inferior fashion, especially vegetables. And when you have a large volume of orders to process and you want to get the food out to the diner quickly, certain foods prepared earlier in the day and heated to serve temperature in the microwave is very convenient.

Let’s say you go for a night out at Applebee’s for a double date. You order a range of menu items:

Appetizer:
- Bone-in wings with Buffalo Sauce
- Spinach and Artichoke Dip* with Chips and Salsa
Meal:
- 8oz Sirloin with Broccoli* and Mashed Potatoes*
- Classic Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries
- Fiesta Lime* Chicken with Rice*
- Three Cheese* Chicken Penne
Dessert:
- Triple Chocolate Meltdown* with Ice Cream

The things that will enter the microwave will be:
- the spinach dip
- the broccoli
- mashed potatoes
- the fiesta lime SAUCE only
- the rice
- the cheese sauce for the penne
- the fudge cake for the meltdown

The wings will have been baked in the morning to pre-cook and then fried to order. The penne will be cooked in the morning and blanched in boiling water to reheat. The steak and chicken and burger are all cooked to order.

Applebee’s doesn’t receive everything pre-packaged like the Schwan food truck. They prep stuff in house in the morning and it’s heated or cooked to order. And EVERY RESTAURANT does stuff like this or you’d wait 30-40 minutes for your food.

I ordered a steak, the interior was refrigerated levels of cold. Pissed me off so I walked out whilst they attempted to fix it, a 3rd time. Cause the 2nd attempt was the same steak I cut into but microwaved longer.
Went to the shitty ass Texas Roadhouse down the road and ate a somewhat decent meal.

I worked as a cook at Applebees for 5 years, in 2 different locations. Kind of a shit place to work, pay was ok. The food was garbage. Everything is pre packaged, processed McDonalds tier quality. Consistent microwave use, if its not a steak or a fried item it goes in the microwave.
