I just use a pot. Toast the rice, add water, turn heat to low when it boils and leave it for 10-15 minutes. If I want drier rice I add less water. Never understood the point of a rice cooker. I bought one and just end up still making it in a pot cause I'm too lazy to get it from the balcony.

Rarely using short grain japonica rice though

Japanese rice cookers are mainly designed to cook japanese rice, so it's pretty irrelevant how other cultures cook non-japanese rice.

>> No.17391728

>>17391420
I don't cook japonica and long grain rice comes out fine on the stove. I also like to saute a little garlic in the pot before adding the rice & water/broth.
I used to have a cheaper rice cooker but it took up precious counter space and tended to crisp up the bottom layer of rice, meanwhile my pot doesn't have that problem.

/fit/ told me rice is fattening, but at one point I wanted to try a rice diet, just eat rice everyday for dinner, but I guess you gotta have something with it like meat? In my animu, the family usually just eats giant bowls of white rice and sometimes fish/meat or soup.

Is it possibly to just live off white rice? Is that over-exaggerated in anime? I never understood how you can eat like 3-4 bowls of fucking PLAIN WHITE RICE, they don't even put soy sauce or butter on it? It has no seasoning at all, it must taste bland. Truth be told I always wanted a Zojirushi, I could afford one but it'd still be a big investment for me. I could drop $300 on one, but it'd be wasted if I don't use it everyday.

Just get a cheapo rice cooker, the elephant ones have a million extra weeb features you'll never use unless you were raised with asian cooking. The fifteen dollar ones you just add X rice, ~2X your liquid of choice (water or broth) and push the lever. it cooks the rice perfect every time and then keeps it warm for you so you don't have to babysit that fucker. Then just add something to the rice and you're done. Meat, veg, egg, doesn't fucking matter but really don't eat rice by itself you'll get sick of it
