I've got some spicy chicken and lentil kitchen-sink curry happening. It cleans the fridge, and provides me with tasty, nourishing jet propulsion.

"mexican soup". It's something I invented when I got bored of my same old soups/stews. The broth is a bit of cumin and oregano, lots of chipotle and ancho and a half teaspoon of better than bullion vegetable base. I cook some onion and garlic in oil with some chopped up seranos or jalapenos, add about 5 cups of water and 1 16oz can of crushed tomatoes. Add 1 package of frozen "southwestern mix" birds eye vegetables. Chop up some stewing pork with a fair bit of the fat trimmed off and throw it in.

From there almost everything you add to it will be delicious: potatoes, carrots, celery, beans, rice, it all goes well with it. A nice spicy soup for a cold day with an excellent broth. It's my favorite.

sounds like the base for mexican tortilla chicken soup.

now that I think about it it's very similar, you could easily pass it off as tortilla soup. The major difference is the combination of the chipotle, ancho and pork. The broth that it makes is top notch.

For me, the high levels of snow and ice present a real chance of the power going out, so rather than starting a soup that could be halted by a lack of electricity I've stocked up on sandwich ingredients.

I made a soup with what I had left in the fridge.

Beef broth
Carrots
Green beans
Bokchoy
Cubed canned corned beef
Cannelini beans
Leftover white rice

It was actually pretty good.
