Why in almost 30 years did no one tell me of the magic that is the pressure cooker?

Now use it to make rice and throw away your meme teflon coated Zojirushi rice cooker too. Best brown rice I've ever had comes from an instant pot.

A lot of people who enjoy luxury rice cookers already know the magic of such a simple device with many purposes.

Aren't they dangerous?

Only if you're extremely stupid.

>dries out your meat
>turns veggies to mush
>not really a time-saver unless you're doing insanely long cook time things, since you still have to build pressure and then release it for 20 minutes after
>electric pressure cookers only get up to 1.5 bar

they're neat, but not a panacea.

you forgot
>kills anti-nutrients in your food
>streamlines the yogurt and natto making process
>turns a 12+ hour stock into 2 hours
>has tonnes of comfy recipes designed especially for it
the instantpot is neat indeed.

Yeah for stuff that takes an hour to braise, it ends up taking the same time in the instant pot unless there's very little water.

Works great on my stove... I cook a large batch of beans and chickpeas once in a while. Reduces energy costs and cooking time to about one third IIRC.

The little heaters in those things are dogshit for searing. Its not a good slow cooker either.
>>17321784
>recipes designed for it
sounds like a con. Here's this gadget that you have to use special recipes to use it.
>yogurt, natto, stock
niche things like this and canning are the only thing pressure cooking is good for. I guess it would be ok if you lacked an oven for whatever reason.

>dogshit for searing
It has its uses. The high walls mean no oil all over the stovetop and the computer maintains a temperature like those hibachi flat tops making it useful for caramelizing.

who the fuck is actually cooking "large batches" of beans? Beans are a fucking dollar a can. How many beans are you actually eating?

It's so insane to me. There is nothing worse smelling or more unsafe (from a food safety perspective) than leftover beans.

I also grew up dirt fucking poor and pinto beans were dinner like 60% of the time, so I can't imagine willingly subjecting myself to them when literally any other food exists.

I think there's some merit to the idea of making a shitload of dry beans at once if you're trying to feed a family of 6 on high school diploma wages but I think it's just basement dwelling NEETs trying to prepare for the red dawn invasion fantasy in the case of /ck/
