Meh, that's also captilism at work, you'll get massive numbers of unemployable poor people that can't feed themselves and have nothing (or very little) left to lose.

Then our government needs to make the choice, do they implement UBI (or similar social safety nets), or do they just let homeless people become a MASSIVE chunk of society that is getting more and more turbulent?

Sounds like a good recipe for armed rebellion and mass looting/rioting to me. Far easier (and cheaper) to just pay people not to work.

Again, that's just going to lead to widespread civil unrest and potentially a civil war.

It's hard to get public opinion on your side when you start slaughtering poor people, especially when those poor people have families that aren't poor.

Again, by FAR the cheapest solution is just to implement UBI.

Cry all you want about freeloaders getting money for doing nothing, but the alternative is to lock them up (which costs even more money), or kill them all (which costs money AND pisses off the rest of the free world and your own citizens)

Just pay the poor people to fuck off and live in their shitty 1 bedroom apartment with some VR porn and no one gives a fuck. UBI is by far the best solution for everyone.

UBI isn't cheap though, that's an Andrew Yang talking point contingent on melting down social security (and SNAP, and just about every single existing social program) to fund it, which again, also leads to social unrest from being deprived of basic needs. It's essentially impossible to come up with a form of budget-neutral or even budget-acceptable UBI that doesn't double the entitlements spending or more -- I think spending is good, but thinking that it's likely to happen just because you've caught wind of a lie about its price is stupid.

Besides, neglecting poor people has been fine so far. Why would they change now?

At what point do you realize it's not the poor people at fault here? It's the rich fucks getting even richer and hoarding wealth that is the issue.

We have more than enough money to feed and house every homeless person in the entire country a dozen times over, AND pay for free college education for everyone. But instead we continue to cut corporate taxes and continue to raise individual tax burden while keeping wages stagnant amidst record inflation and rising food and housing costs.

It's unsustainable and the solution of just kill the poor people is a bit fucking ridiculous, eventually when you just keep killing the poor people in society, what used to be the middle class becomes the new poor people and you have the same problems as before if not worse.

The alternative is to not pay for it. Your armed uprising scenario doesn't happen because of the tanks and helicopters; the purpose of a massive arms and equipment advantage is to prevent a war, not to win it once it breaks out. And no, "10-20%" of military spending would not even pay for 10-20% of current non-discretionary entitlements spending, let alone a full UBI program. Money is fake, but math is real.

What do you think K-12 education is?

They're already given 13 years of education for free, the people who are smart enough to continue on for another 4 years shouldn't suddenly be saddled with $100-200k+ in debt because they're smarter.

Further, college education has only ballooned in cost because of colleges realizing they can charge whatever the fuck they want since 90% of the students are having to take out loans anyway, what's another $10k a year for someone that's already borrowing $40k a year?
Administrative overhead is retarded, and most of it is spurred on by the fact university education ISN'T free, and it's a for profit system that prays on people getting student loans from the government.

Far easier to just cap university costs, drastically cut administrative staff, make it free for everyone and the government simply pays for the pure cost (without any bullshit overhead paying for hundreds of administrative staff who's main job is figuring out how to make the university more money)
