Iktf. I hated tomatoes up until about 15 years ago. I now love them, but only if they're hard roma. A few years ago I realized why I hated tomatoes and thats because exactly what you pointed out. Make sure you gut the romas too.

Don't buy ones made for sauce (roma, marzano &c.) if the delicious jelly in the middle bothers you.
Sharpen your knife and let the weight of the knife do the cutting.
Buy them in season, buy them in season or just buy them when they're in season. Greenhouse ones are ok but uncomparable to the ones you buy in season.
