Use pure cocoa powder and sugar OP, syrups and other cocoa mixes like >>17280338 have a lot of gums and other fillers so you pay for less cocoa flavor than you otherwise could get and also can independently control the sweetness level to your taste. The drawback is you either need to spend awhile stirring manually (and maybe sifting in the powder to break it lumps) or use a blender because powders don't dissolve into milk as readily. Also warming your milk helps so you could just make a pitcher of hot milk and add enough cocoa/sugar to meet your flavor profile and then set in the fridge to chill. Be aware that the cocoa solids tend to settle at the bottom after about 8 minutes of not being disturbed so it needs a quick remix just to redistribute the cocoa particles evenly in the solution.

PROTIPS:
1. Buy High-Fat Cocoa (Natural has a stronger and more acidic flavor than Dutch Process but is lighter in color).
Fat lives in flavor, and Hershey's is really lean (they process out most of the expensive cocoa butter for higher-margin candy/chocolate purposes).
https://lifehacker.com/check-the-fat-content-to-tell-good-cocoa-powder-from-th-1510320113

2. DO NOT FORGET TO ADD SALT. Add a 1/2 tsp at a time and taste as you go, it won't be salty just enhance the sweetness/chocolate flavor of the cocoa

3. Add a tsp of vanilla extract at the end, really comes through.

I don't drink it everyday, but when I do I do it right. We're literally talking 1-2 pinches in a large glass.
The reason many homemade chocolate milk recipes never seem to taste as good as the store-bought premixes comes down to two factors:
1. They add a bunch of emulsifiers (usually carrageenan & corn starch) to help maintain the chocolate suspension in the milk solution during storage & distribution, and also to cheat in giving the drink some textural body since they always cheap out and use Skim or 1% Dairy as the base.
2. They add some salt and sometimes imitation vanilla to enhance the flavor, which is why commercial choco-milk always has a bit more sodium content than you'd expect.

>>17280760
I have a Vitamix, so powdered cocoa doesn't bother me to properly mix in cold liquids (but even my cheapo nutribullet also werks).
If you want a real chocolate ritual or just'd like to be fancy while it's cold this winter try SE's Hot Chocolate Recipe (Hot Cocoa and Hot Chocolate are entirely different animals):
https://www.seriouseats.com/easy-homemade-hot-chocolate-mix-recipe
It has you freeze some dark chocolate and then process it into a powder or just grate it finely with a knife/rasp and then add that in to the usual cocoa mix and it's awesome with whole milk and a splash of heavy cream. You're basically drinking very diluted chocolate ganache at that point. Don't do it often or it will kill you though.

What kind of man are you? Well, you're weak, spineless, a man of temptations, but what tempts you?

You're a portly fellow, a bit long in the waistband. So what's your pleasure? Is it the salty snacks you crave? No no no no no, yours is a sweet tooth.

Oh you may stray, but you'll always return to your dark master, the cocoa bean.
