Last beer battered fish I made wasn't quite what I thought it would be, I think I made the batter too thick for one and the pieces were far too large for such thick batter (which I was sort of going for in terms of thickness to get a nice fried crust but definitely overdid it).

The flour I'm using. Great stuff, I pan fry porkchops with it.
Subsequent posts will be the beer I'm trying to decide on. Any tips or tricks would be great. I'm using cod as the fish, I plan on halving the filets this time as well into 4x4 squares

Not sure why all my pics are sideways lol. Made a homemade tartar sauce last night so it could chill in the fridge overnight and really blend those flavors (I found a Captain D's recipe and it tastes pretty similar) and have some homemade remoulade from crab cakes I made last Friday. Plenty of malt vinegar, too. Using a blend of peanut oil and crisco (ran out of peanut oil and crisco is all I had) to fry my fish and chips (chips are just frozen Rally's/Checkers battered fries)

Why, just so I can understand your rationale for the future? Last time I used Sam Adam's and it was great, I've also got Bud heavy (I don't drink light beer)

Just don't want to screw things up for date night with my wife. Kids are all over at a sleep over and I wanted to do dinner and a movie and fish and chips is one of her favorite and I didn't want to just get store bought or take out

I'm experimenting with my air fryer, 3/4 of the fish of going the traditional route but I've got two pieces going in the air fryer

Gonna grab some pics, came out great in the traditional method of oil frying, wet batter and the air fryer turned out like a weird kind of breading because I had to put some excess flour on the outside of the batter to keep it from dripping through the grates. Now the batter, amazing. Fried the battered fish for about 3 or 4 minutes, took it out on a drain rack to rest for a couple of minutes and then back in for 3 or 4 minutes more. Learned that trick of frying twice while making fries.
>air fryer beer battered (that turned into breading like crust) cod on the left, peanut oil fried beer batter cod
If the image flips like my other ones, then the smaller piece is the air fryer, large one oil fried. Got a couple more pieces leftover for the kids, too.
