I had tuna sushi breakfast at Sushi Dai at the old Tsukiji fish market and it was magnificent. Other tuna just doesn't compare. The buyers of tuna this size at auction are legitimately the most elite sushi restaurants. While I can't imagine it being much better than what I tasted it would be, which means it's fucking amazing.

Usually the most expensive fish at those auctions are not for the meat, but to showoff. The meat might not actually be worth 3 million dollars (more like 300k), but powerful rich people will spend that much money just to take part in and win the auction.

Who hasn’t ever had an actual piece of tuna? Grilled, seared, raw, whatever, it’s insanely common.
And no, a bluefin tuna doesn’t magically become better when it’s auctioned in Japan.

If some japanese / chink running it over 5000 times then it must be worth it to some types like chopping off shark fins for the chinks. Don't they dry those shark fins out then sell them them back to the savage chinks for shark fin soup while letting the sharks bleed out to die a misarable death?

Doesn't mean that most people have eaten bluefin tuna to warrant a response like >>17203587 And a specialty fish market is not a supermarket like woolworths, walmart, etc. Bluefin tuna is generally not accessible from the average supermarket. No one said that bluefin tuna cannot be purchased in western countries, rather that bluefin tuna is not sold at supermarkets.

>> No.17207493

That is bluefin tuna? Don't forget that there are many different species of tuna. The one we are talking about based on the OP is Thunnus orientalis. Around here, our local bluefin (Thunnus maccoyii) sells for about 100 dollars a kilogram and the price goes up for choice cuts. One fish can go for 30 thousand dollars. You don't get bluefin from a supermarket, you get yellowfin, albacore, and skipjack.

I felt that way about seafood when I was a kid. But after I started trying seafood more starting in my early 20s I realized it's the best general category of food there is. Lots of high protein / nutritional options that taste great and are easier on the digestion than most anything else.

>That is bluefin tuna?
Yes, thon rouge de Méditerranée, which is actually the thon rouge de l'Atlantique.

>The one we are talking about based on the OP is Thunnus orientalis.
Yes, the one poisoned beyond repair.

>You don't get bluefin from a supermarket,
Yes you find it in supermarkets, but all 3 subspecies are endangered and it's a big topic here.
